VNT has been around longer than i have been playing with turbos...and that's a while...still yet to see a big hp setup that works really?
From most accounts garret VNT + Petrol = fail. They don't handle the hot petrol exhaust gases like a holset VNT.

Yeah VNT looks good on paper, but I'm still yet to find someone doing a 10 sec pass with one. I'm fairly sure the late model porche 911's with VNT are known for for crapping themselves too. Everything I've read on them points to the housings not flowing enough exhaust gas on a petrol motor, so you need a good sized external waste gate to stop boost creep and get enough flow to make any power.
what about the borg warner efr turbos?

These are the pick of the bunch i reckon. About as good as current turbo tech gets and fair prices. I'd like to see one in the metal to get an idea of sizing as they are pretty funky.
I just saw results for a PTE Billet 6262 on a stock UZ. 315rwkw @ 8psi!! That's about where i am on E85 with the twins, impressive stuff.
Anyways, i have gone with a GT3582R for now with a 0.63 turbine housing. Some good results on US poopras convinced me to give it a go......once the twins cark it![]()

Hence why I was surprised, there might be 200rpm in it, no way it's 3800 though, I have full boost by 3000rpm. The Sound Performance dyno sheets with the same set-up, PTE6765 has the next larger exhaust housing on it than mine. It's only been together since last week. Is running AVC-R and Microtech, Tial external gate, and dyno queening hasn't been a priority as I can street tune it. Happy to take you for a run if you get to Bris-vegas. Otherwise it'll be a few weeks before she goes on a dyno for fine tuning. With the old bush bearing "carrett" turbo that was on her when I bought it (to4 copy with 1.00 rear housing) it made 1 bar at 4300rpm. It is like driving a diesel truck now in comparison, but with a big top end.
It is showing 11psi on free rev with the QSV closed too!

Wish I had the extra coin to go big single, seems the much more simple/satisfying option compared to the sequentials, while i like the low rpm boost of the sequentials the dip in power at change over is pretty annoying.
The best thing about the sequentials is also the worst thing... the illusion of massive power with boost from idle as you effortlessly cruise around at low throttle & rpm. The illusion is then shattered when you decide to give it some stick.
The massive surge in torque you get with a single as it comes on boost never fails to put a smile on my face.
Removing the cast-iron labyrinth of piping and the twin heat generators did wonders for keeping engine temperatures down where they should be too.![]()
Yeah i can see many benefits of a single. In thw twins defense, running the 1st turbo on 14psi and combined on 16-18psi there is so power dip and pretty decent surge the whole way from 2000rpm upwards. I wind past the max reading on the speedo in no time at all so it's plenty quick enough for a street car. I'll try and run some 0-100 and 1/4 mile times with the old G-tech and see what it says.

Yer i have a feeling mine aren't functioning quite as they should (thus the second pair in the shed awaiting rebuild) Perhaps the reed valve is blocked restricting prespool :/
We put a 3582R with .63 rear on a mates 2J, really chokes in the top end. The owner ended up switching to a .82 rear and only had a small change in spool with a much stronger top end.
I've got a .82 35R on my vvti 2J also and it's awesome for a daily driver, really responsive.
yeah, it topped out at 270kw atw on a dyno dynamics in shoot6f at 5500rpm with the .63 rear through the R154 with 3.9 diff. Same dyno that Wilbo's 2J/T78 combo did 300kw on at 19psi
It did only have a small turbosmart 38mm gate though with the gate pipe plumbed back in about 80cm down the dump

boys I think you should go for it... put a couple of T76 Turbonetics on.. run it on methanol, mechanical fuel injection and with about 35psi.. should be good for around 1200 - 1400HP... now we are talking![]()
