sounds to me like its potentially some sort of dash grounding issue...
however i have no knowledge of ta22 so im just guessing...
The instrument panel on my ta22 has the charge light on, temperature guage not working, fuel guage not working, tacho not working properly. This just occured all at once the other day. Any clues and/or who might specialise in troubleshooting for me in Melbourne? The auto electrician checked the alternator and regulator and they are working fine, but when faced with the prospect of looking behind the instrument panel baled out! Thanks, Graham.

Been there n dun that - lols
Get some 320 wet & dry - clean all the fuse holders
ALSO - Go spend $4 and buy some new fuses that aren't 35 years old !
Problem then will be self correcting....![]()
I just ripped out my TA22 dash recently to paint it.. once I installed it again no lights worked etc... then I found an earth wire I didnt hook up! dont forget this one! as midnight said, could be the earth? I hooked it up and bam... lights and all...
Nick.
The earthing leads under the dash are held on by 10mm bolts (bloody tight usually)
If they've been good for 35ish years and not interfered with they will be ok.
If in doubt, put a star washer between either side and remount for an exact earth![]()
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll be working on them this weekend.
............and.............I now have clean fuse holders and nice new fuses but still a charge light, no fuel guage reading, no heater fan, no temp reading and incorrect taco reading and only faint brake light when the hand brake is on. I haven't been playing with the dash or behind it before or since this all happened so I am hesitant to pull the dash out. Is there any earth and or wiring in the engine bay that could be causing the issues?
okies
On the engine block there are 2 large earth straps left and right,
on the back of the head is a small earth lead
Put star washers either side of the mounting "O" so it will bite n make the best earth
Failing that at least borrow a friends fully charged battery to see if anything improves
without any more pulling apart of the dash
From memory theres 2 earth wires under the dash. one to the rh side of the speaker n one
near the heater box vent

Hi,
Does the car start? headlights and indicators work? Any gauges work?
If the above is yes, then I'd be looking at a bad earth for the instrument cluster, as the issue seems to be only in that area. Check the main plugs that go to the cluster and clean them up. If that doesn't work then you will have to get into the the back of the cluster to see WTF is going on.

hope that helps![]()
forgot the other obvious thing, where the plug connectors go on the back of the fuse holder
also clean up the spades on the fuse block !
Thanks for all the info. Fortunately or unfortunately my attempts to pinpoint came to an end today. I was tracing the loom from firewall and seeing where it went in behind the dashboard. I then unexpectantly had to stop and drive my car and everything was working again. No idea what I did. Will start it all again when it inevitably bobs it's head up again and I will tinker more carefully to trace the problem! Thanks again, Graham.
