Rep System on Classifieds - Our Forums are suffering

Not to mention majority of the previous forums memebers were idle accounts anyway, that forum was up since 2002 wasn't it and had 13,000 members or something in the end, we have 3000 no almost and then forums have been up properly since october and no one heavily posted until the old ones were shut in december.

Time for real life example:
A user named Tiger has recently put up a thread titled "Big car audio thread" and i saw it just after he put it up. He had 11 or 12 rep points. He now has 35 rep points and that has been within the last couple of days and im also pretty sure that is the only post/thread i have seen from him besides a thread saying who he was and his old user name and a little about himself. It's pretty simple: Good posts/threads = Rep.
I've been repped for merely putting pictures up and not really saying much. Hell, i got rep for a picture i drew in paint. Rep will come, just be productive.

I really like the rep idea, as has been mentioned it get rid of the dickheads.
I beleive the problem at the moment isn't that the rep threshhold for priveledges is too high but that people don't give out enough rep often enough. This will pass with time as people start to understand the importance of it.
I must admit I feel a bit ripped off with my lack of rep but lifes like that
If you think long term it's obvious rep is an excellent idea.

Yeah i'm not one to join in as a full member cos i never goto meets etc... and i didn't use this nick before cos it was not available when i first joined. I only realised it was availalble when the new forums got setup.

Yes it does get some people steamed, especially those that put in the time to run this club and this forum. As you've said yourself you've been a long standing member, however I don't see your name anywhere on the members list of the Toymods Car Club. Strange that you have used the forum for apparently 8 years (longer than it has existed as far as I know) but have never been motivated to join the actual club that has provided the resource for you.

Your argument is based on a reduction in the number of members and posts. I say you have spotted exactly what the aim of the new forum is. The aim was to reduce the number of wookies posting rubbish and abusing the forums as a free classifieds service. The average quality of posts on this forum is MUCH higher than that of the old forum. I'd much rather see 10 good posts a day than 100 posts that are an embarassment to the club.

you dont need to go to the meetings and dyno days to still be a financial member. there are others from different states who have become members.

the money probably helps fund this site and various meetings and toymods merchandise.....

There is a member who has obtained a rep of 38 with only 4 posts. It isn't that hard.

Actually it is because he posted one excellent post which had a plethora of information.

If you read the tech sections i'm sure you would already know who and which post I am talking about.

yeh i member tiger, he put up that great audio tech thing, cos thats his business and yeh i repped him cos its great

Yeh Tiger's killing the rep with that audio post, but good on him he deserves it. I repped him even though i'm not into stereos that much but merely because i can see that what he has done may be useful in the future and i'm positive it's gunna be useful to alot of people and probably has been already. Threads like this deserve rep because they contain quality info and help to solve problems or clarify issues people may have.

I have bought far more parts off this forum in the time its been running compared to the 2 plus years I was on the old ones.

pfft thats cos you finally have a car worth buying parts for!

Knew some smartarse would say that, come on I bought rims off the old forum for the corona.

New forums also have more sponsor and traders then the old one, got to say that helps alot too.

Not to mention I'm saving more than the cost of my membership on brakes alone tomorrow. And had my first dealing with a forum trader ie Import Bitz on my wheels and so far couldn't be happier.

what about a good buy / bad buy thread etc in there for when the sale is complete?
