I found it a bit irritating that i had to build rep before i could sell anything, but i find selling things to be a pain in the ass unless people can pick up.
i thought the wanted section was unrestricted now anyway?
and anyone can PM to sell/buy stuff anyway
exactly, but if buying was also be restricted to people that were not a pain in the arse (how you could tell, i'm not sure), imagine the stink that would be kicked up!!!

OC, i think u answer questions to this whole Rep thing way too often. every single rep problem/classifieds thread has these massive answers by you and always the same.

the rep system works, it takes time but it works. sheesh look at some of the people that used to bitch about it, in due time they got their 30, which isnt that much when u look at OC's rep points haha.

Theres no such thing as a stupid question, there are however alot of inquisitive idiots...

Alot of the time just a witty remark is enough for rep, you don't have to be able to be able to calculate how long stars have been in the sky for or heat coefficients or the strength of 3mm plastic. Rep can merely be given by helping someone. ie someone asks what tyres your car uses you say bridgestone potenza - they are good in dry but awesome in wet. You have then helped someone out. Mind you alot of people ask such questions without doing any research whatsoever. This is often worthy of neg rep

I agree, I copped quite a large rep boost just for scanning a few pages out of an old motor magazine issue that he (the repper) was interested in. Just look for opportunity to be helpful and the rep will come.

Ok on the chance that i get flamed again here i go --->
I've read what alot of the people are saying in relation to reps but i still believe that this forum has suffered due to the change in systems. I've been a long standing member now, err. about 8 yrs or so since i had my first Toyota.

Now from my viewing of the forums there are less posts, in most sections not just the classifieds. I also notice that it is generally the same people posting. (Again my theory that there is a reduction of members).

Now i think the reduction of thread especially in the classifieds has reduced to less than 50%. Just goto the classifieds and see how many items there are. Rem we are not taking about acompletely different forum here, we are just taking about a move, Generally there should be less than a 10% drop in members or people posting.

As i now work i don't come on as often so have only been on cos i've been unwell the last week due to surgery, thus the excess postings recently. But even during my limited times i do come on i see that the forums are no-longer the busy place they use to be.

Also i see your point about some people ripping off the forums, but in any system there are still bad people out there and you should be aware of it. Its always been a buyer beware site, but in my time here i have purchased a few things and generally all members who brought off me were decent people. Maybe i was lucky. Now all i see is a forum for people to ask questions and await the same people to reply. They no-longer exchange items or sell their junk to others. I can tell you i made more friends on this forums(old) by selling/buying items!

Like I said earlier, wait and see 12 months and you will see this site back to better than it ever was. Some people who aren't regular posters will take a bit longer than this to build rep but c'mon, 30-(starting rep)10=20. 20 points can't be that hard to gain in 12 months for anyone now can it? For example: Someone may have a thread in the non-car discussion looking for something in a field you know like the back of your hand, and if their rep is high they have the power to give you more than just one point for what you have to offer/help them with...

...Is there anyone that thinks I'm wrong in saying this forum will be tops in 12 months once everyone has built up enough rep and has their access rights?

limbo, do you think it will be too difficult to gain another 18 points?

guys although i dont have much to sell - maybe it should go by the amount of posts/ time registered by a user.. 1 fellow member mistook me for someone else and as a consequence i lost about 6 rep points - does that sound fair???

if you had read previous threads you would know that rep power DOES go up by time and number of posts.
post usefully and rep goes up..

if you feel you were repped by accident, then alert the mods. easy.

as it stands.. the forums are provided by the toymods car club for members and enthusiasts.
the FREE classifieds are provided by the toymods car club for members and enthusiasts.
it appears that actual toymods members are in the minority of forum members, meaning that a lot of people are enjoying these benefits provided..... by the toymods car club.

the number of people who cannot post in classifieds yet are (as it appears from reading frums everyday) IN THE MINORITY of active posting members. those who actively contribute will be able to post in classifieds very quickly.

    think of it this way.
    you start with 10 points.
you only need 30 points (for now)
    i give 8 points.
Rona (the post whore..jk ) gives a substantial number of points, as do the other members who are now well over 100 or 200 points..

so.. appreciate the fact that you have a massively targetted audience (a marketers dream really ) and that it only takes a couple of GOOD posts that others appreciate before you can abuse the classifieds
actually.. if you had one good post that EVERYONE appreciated.... and get an average of say... 2 rep points .... thats 4810 rep points.

with 2400 members, you would think getting 3 or 4 to give you rep when you post wouldn't be so hard

    Owend.

as always when old rollas talks you listen not because he has 281 rep points it because he knows his shit.

i never worried about the rep points i visit these forums almost every day after work but i love people here there not dickheads like people on other forums.
this forum doesnt have the bullshit so you dont have to filter through enless amounts of pages to get an answer.

i would suggest to everybody to join TOYMODS not for the chance to abuse the classifieds but the chance to share the same love as every body here.

other pros from becoming a toymods member are

*fully sick T-shirt (im still waiting STITT)
    *studdy cooler

plus you get discounts at selected stores.

and if you are just on here to use the classifed section i would more likely to trust some one that is a member,

    sorry aus rota boys.

but limbo check out the aus rota forum.

to be honest i love it but it shits me because the general talk section and the classifieds are the main section.

sure they have a tech reference but it isnt used every day like this one is.
and there classifieds are continually abused with WTB and EOI and the thing about this forums and the way it has been setup is that sort of bullshit was left back on the old forums.

as for the drop in numbers and post im going to be a parrot here but these forums dont stop. my MSN is forever going of beep (messaged recived from TOYMODS)

i as old rolla knows am not a technical wizard but read the tech sections not only to help some one about somthing that i know but to gain knowledge for myself may be you should do the same and that could earn you some rep in the future.

and old rollas i do belive that rep power exceeds on

how long you have been a member of the forums
    how many posts
and how many rep points you have

    not just rep points

correct me if i stand wrongs

    anyways thats my 2 cents

They aren't the same, but they are inter-linked.....
your number of rep point increases your rep power - bah, just read the FAQ, it's all there!

    Rep system ftw!

I'll also back up the post by "Whatthe" - i'd say about 100 of my rep points so far have come from threads i've started on a topic that several people wanted to know about and found super helpful and useful.

For instance, if you post a tech guide or tech question using a few pics and some good structure to make your question or guide really easy to work out, people will +rep the shit out of you!! The "quad H4 hi-low for old celicas" thread i started earned me about 30-40 points ALONE!!

It's not that hard really, just think of something you can offer the community that hasnt been covered yet, or that you think you can cover better using some pics, diagrams, etc.!
Even just links to super useful websites!

Good luck guys, I hope to see some good threads from you soon

Yes it does get some people steamed, especially those that put in the time to run this club and this forum. As you've said yourself you've been a long standing member, however I don't see your name anywhere on the members list of the Toymods Car Club. Strange that you have used the forum for apparently 8 years (longer than it has existed as far as I know) but have never been motivated to join the actual club that has provided the resource for you.

Your argument is based on a reduction in the number of members and posts. I say you have spotted exactly what the aim of the new forum is. The aim was to reduce the number of wookies posting rubbish and abusing the forums as a free classifieds service. The average quality of posts on this forum is MUCH higher than that of the old forum. I'd much rather see 10 good posts a day than 100 posts that are an embarassment to the club.
