Default 2J head on 1J Block

    Hello Guys,

A lot of people are making a 1.5J engine. So what happens to all the left over 1J blocks and 2J heads??? Surely I can pick these up cheaply and make a "-1.5J" engine...LOL. But seriously, the only reason I would do this is because of the price. Also, if I have a NA 2J head on a turbo 1J block, can I turbo the "-1.5J" at a later date?

The 1jz blocks are generally blown to smithereens and instead of rebuilding they grab a 2jz bottom end. Which gives them extra capacity and allows them to keep the same inlet & exhuast manifolds.

Putting a 2jz head on a 1jz block would be retarded, alot of money spent on manifolds etc for little gain in terms of having a better flowing head.
    If in doubt power out

I know the logic says don't spend money on a reduced size engine, just go get the whole 2j to begin with. But I am looking at CHEAP parts here. Say a couple hundred dollars for the head and block, I would make custom intake and exhaust myself. Probably be able to pick up cheap factory ecu for 1J (assuming I can do this as I want to put in a cressida) and hopefully be able to do a cheap "bitsa" conversion. Later on down the track, I would then look at turboing it.

    just dont... end of story...

2jz-gte heads are expensive and thus will cost you $800 or so for a good working one... 1jz bottom ends are cheap but usually broken if someone is parting with it...

also most people do a 1.5jz with an NA 2jz bottom end so the na head putting it onto a 1jz bottom end is a complete waste of time effort and most importantly MONEY

you would be best off buying a 1jz complete motor with loom and ecu... otherwise i can see this heading straight to failtown

Don't know what ns and ca mean, but it looks like my suspicions are true. It is not worth it as it will probably end up costing as much as a complete 1j would to buy. Thanks guys, just testing the water as it was a question I had that hadn't been answered.

Out of interest, what is the difference between a NA and Turbo 2JZ head?? Anyone?

    LOTS
do a bit of searching mate...

    2jz-gte head
    has coil packs
    smaller exhaust ports
    different port spacing
    no distributor
    different cam covers
    different coil pack cover
    different cams

    2jz-ge head
    distributor
    bigger exhaust ports

    etc etc

a 1.5jz done with a 1jz head and 2jz bottom end will cost more than a standard straight 1jz-gte complete motor with gearbox loom and ecu... (assuming an auto)

a 1.5jz done the way you were speaking of would cost alot more and be of no substancial gain

You've convinced me. I am currently looking for a 1jzgte or 2jzgte (if I can afford it) as a half cut as we speak. I've decided to go the hole hog, no point trying to to a budget conversion I suppose. Or I will end up with budget horsepower...lol

The words "budget" and "cheap" just don't go in a sentence with #JZGTE... maybe #GE but not the other.
