    Default 1G-GTE rebuild (parts)

I'm going to give my 1G a basic rebuild before it goes back into the car, AFAIK it's still running well, but I'd like to know it's fresh. Here's the list of parts I *think* I'll need, I was going to use an ACL full gasket kit, and ACL bearings. I hope they make them, it's not listed in their online catalog. The main things i want to get right are bearings, rings and the head gasket, I'm not interested in spending $300 on a headgasket, just a good, strong, simple option would be nice

    Parts:
    Piston Rings
    Bearings (big end, crank)
    Full gasket set, including seals
Head gasket (if the one in the set isn't up to the task...)
    Possibly a new oil pump
Acid dip block, check all tolerances, put it back together.

    Any comments?

Same goes for me im rebuilding mine at the moment and theres a couple of things im still chasing

im told for acl race bearings get 4k for the rods and 3s for the mains.

Im still trying to find hasting moly rings but you can get the stock ones from toyota for an arm and a leg. Probably will have to take one of the pistons to a rebuild shop and see if they can match a set.

if acl do a full gasket kit that would be awesome, but ive only managed to find a genuine toyota item for around $500.

Id suggest speaking to 6boost and forcedfed aswell as they will have some tips on improving the oil system. The galleries can be modified to flow better.

Its always a good idea to get the head and the block suraface decked to ensure good headgasket sealing. better to do it know while it apart.
    good luck.

Of course, the head and block would be cleaned up and checked for surface, along with everything else...

Can anyone back up about the ACL race bearings for the 3S and 4K suiting?

Look for one of 6Boost's posts, there are different sizes depending on what generation of engine you have

I am also rebuilding a 1g-gte I am sending my standard head gasket to cometic gaskets in the US to get a custom one made they said it would cost around 100usd and 2-3weeks. If anyone else is interested in getting one let me know as they might come down in price if more are made at the same time.
Where can you get a gasket set from i have looked around and cant find anything aftermarket?

as josh said toyota gasket will do the job you need.

full gasket kits from toyota are under $500, and is the first thing i would buy if rebuilding a 1g well worth the money, ive rebuilt mine a few times now over the years for a few various reasons.

ill right up a full report on what not to do if building a 1g in my members rides thread once this thing of mine is fully sorted
    cheers steve,

Sounds awesome mate. Full gasket kit might be the go, I'll have to see if I can get trade on one. So no-one has found a set of rings that work?

Rings are fine to leave alone anyway, especially if you're not going to hone the bores.

Just check ring gap and mark the pistons #1...#6 if you take them out.

Break-in of new rings will wear down the hone pattern in your bores a lot, so it's mostly best to hone before re-ring. A full hone and re-ring widens the bores a touch and isn't always better than leaving good used ones in. Did you have oil consumption?

That's the trouble, the engine's in un-known condition, except that it *was* running, and it still turns smoothly. Hence i want to give it a good refresh before it goes in.
