Default Smoke at cold start issue

    hey all,
I picked up my mr2 the other week and did my first cold start in the morning.

When I first start in the morning the car is fine, within a space of about 30 seconds there is a decent amount of blue smoke (smells like burning oil).

The strange thing is, if I drive the car from my driveway the smoke goes away, even if I pull over again the smoke doesn't come back.

I did a compression test and everything seemed decent enough, cylinder 1 was a bit lower than the other 3 cylinders though.

I was thinking it could be valve stem seals, but the issue doesn't come back once the car is warm.

If the valve guides were worn, could this both allow oil in and reduce the compression in that 1 cylinder too?

The car is a non turbo 3sge mr2

find a big hill, drive down it engine braking, see if the car then smokes. If it does then it's the valve stem seals.

Do a wet comp test on cyclinder one and check the difference.. Worn valve stems wouldn't expect a massive increase in comp.

whats happening is when its cold the rings arent expanded enough (probably sludged in) and then with a bit of heat it expands and seals again another thing aswell if you just sit there and hold revs at about 3,000rpm no load you will probably find the smoke will come back again
