Default Aristo 2jzgte auto - extension housing swap over

hey all, bought a Aristo half cut to drop in my xe falcon track car. Any who its a non vvt job, auto blah blah. The importer bloke said i should convert the extension housing and rear shaft in the auto trans to one out of a JZZ30 soarer so that i have a yoke style tailshaft. As the aristo box is for a independent rear end and my xe is a live rear axle. From what i gather the auto is called a A340E as is the same with the soarer? Also i see that some of the later cressidas ( 7m powered ones ), have the A340E trans aswell, can i use the parts off the cressida trans? If i used the cressida extension housing and shaft i could then use the yoke from the cressida tailshaft yeah? Cheers Lads.

I can't say I have ever used one of those auto's so I am not sure what you mean as far as independent and live rear diffs, most gearbox's all have some form of gearbox yoke and if you have one to fit the gearbox you have all I usually do is get the front yoke that fits your gearbox and the back uni that bolts to your diff (whatever that's going to be) and take that down to the diff shop and have a new tailshaft made. This usually costs me around $250- $300 trade price and all is good.

If for some reason that gearbox doesn't use a tailshaft (then I'm not sure how it works) or you can't get a yoke to fit what you have then I would suggest you just swap the extension housing and shaft for something that you can get a yoke for and do the same thing.

The thing with your conversion will be that no matter what shaft you use, I would be suprised if any of them will bolt up to you diff anyway so as long as you get a yoke to fit the back of your box then the custom way is the easiest, and not that expensive really (considering what the rest of the conversion will probably set you back).

I hope that answers your question

Yeah i'm aware i will have to make a custom tailshaft, i will use the falcon one with a yoke to suit the aristo box. Its just that the aristo box does not take a conventional yoke, it has a rubber pad and a plate as apposed to the usual slide in yoke and uni joint on most cars. The extension housing from whatever donor transmission is my question. From what i read the cressida has the same auto, i think i will try to fit one from a cressida.
The importer told me that the extension housing from a JZZ30 soarer 1JZ soarer will fit, but i'm finding it hard to source a old 2nd hand box to get the parts from.

Depends what condition the auto is in. Why do you want the aristo plate style one?

wrench, have a look in the conversion thread "JZVK's MS55 cruiser" , from memory he has used a nice solution to your problem.

Just for the newbie, open the Tech and Conversions forum, have a look at the top, Sub-Forums: Tech and Conversions, then open the Engine & Driveline Conversions. look for 2JZGTE into my MS55 cruiser, the author is jzk25, my apologies.

    cheers Chuck.

My mistake. I thought you wanted the rubber donut type yoke that I have as a spare. I bought a jza80 NA gearbox. It comes with a 2jz bellhousing and a cressida style slip yoke for my conversion.

A lot simpler than doing the output shaft swap/
