yes mine are and it works on an idividual bases unless you buy a package that has engineers cert with it. ball park figure would be around $1500 to $1700 to get things done.
cheers mat
Were any of these brake upgrades 'engineered' if so, exactly what did they do to show they were OK?

Thanks. I would like to actually know what they did. For instance, did they actually do a set of instrumented driving tests; or, did they just take it for a drive; or, did they just look at it?
The brake upgrades ive had gingerbeered have been an inspection of the adaptors (if its not a bolt up job) and then braking tests. On the SX i had 12x5-100-5 tests.

If I were to use adapters for RX7 brakes (for a AE86 strut) would I require an engineering cert.? Pretty stupid considering how much better RX7 brakes would be.
I'm picking up a set for free from a mate we sponsor for drifting. All I need now are the AE86 struts and RX7 adapters.
Yes you would require engineering. The RX7 brakes are a lot better but won't help you if your caliper brackets snap due to poor design or installation.

Thanks Takai. I don't know if Foamy understands what I'm getting at but up here in NSW for such a modifcation our RTA would want about $30k of testing to have it engineered. If it's not a genuine manufacturer's option (& therefore, straight swap) RTA requires full ADR testing. I'm trying to understand why the SA Transport Department has such different standards when they should be similar to some extent.
Nah, the gingerbeering certificate of inspection will cover the brakes as well, then it just comes down to the gingerbeer and whether he approves them.
None of my road going conversions have involved custom caliper brackets, i tend to make life easier for myself by just using bolt up packages (R33/BA, Hilux/Pug, etc etc). That said, i know of several NSW RTA engineered conversions (with several different engineers) who have had upgrades approved with custom caliper brackets. Im not 100% sure of their testing regulations, or if they were tested before or after any possible changes with the ADRs going national.

ok run into a little problem. Using ra60 struts and mr2 shockies and hsd coilover kit, gone to put the top spring plate on and then the standard strut top on, there doesnt seem to be enough thread to get the nut on, as in you can get it on but only a couple of turns. Suggestions???

mate, the retainer doesnt look like it is sitting flush on the collared section below the thread. when looking at the second photo, you can see there is still some room to move before it is located correctly. Does the spring retainer have flat sides which slide on the struts shaft?
Upper hats have to float on the shaft, drill a bigger hole in the upper hat so the orginal tops (if that is what you are using) move down into position on the D of the shaft.
Hope that makes sense but basically you need a bigger hole.
