Default Cam belt timing 1uz how?

My new engine has a smashed cam belt tensioner so I think the belt may have slipped a tooth or five...

What way do I re time it to ensure it's right?

I think I know, but could some please verify for me?

    Thanks

aslong as those marks line up (crank and cams) your set, with the belt tension, arnt they self tensioned ? or do they have an eccentric tensioner ?
some cam belts have marks on the belt, and you can just line the belt marks up to the pulley marks, but if has no marks, i doesnt matter where the belt sits.

always turn the engine over 360 degrees and see if the marks line up again,

    Ah. Thanks guys..

    Those pages are useful

AND, the 360 degree thing is such a good idea!!! I didn't think of that, but THAT's the way you check!

Just don't expect to line the marks on the belt up with the marks on the pulleys after 360deg rotation.

(and btw, you'll need to do 720deg rotation to get the cam marks to line up again.

    Unbolt the old one.
Bolt in the new one (with the pin still inserted)
    Then remove the pin.

if the pin isnt in it, (if its new it should be) stick the tensioner in a vice and very slowly tighten up the vice and push the pin in (slowly) then stick the pin in, If you dont have a pin i use a small allen key.

*tighten it so slowly, that when you put pressure on the vice, dont force it, the tensioner will bypass the internal oil and it will slowly compress.

    Hrm,

I don't have a 'new' one per say, I have one off another motor.... Which is therefore second hand.

When we say 'pin' are we referring to the 5mm thick shaft that is the tensioner, or something else?

Cruz - I have done step a), but step B and C, referring to the 'pin' dont' make sense to me.
