i'm goin to go with bad sound quality....
however with 2x 3 into 1 extractors and a sidepipe just behind the drivers door should make a little difference in the sound department.... if all goes to plan it will sound as good as it does in my head

just out of sheer morbid curiousity..

what is your budget for this build?
what sort of timeframe are you hoping to achieve this in?

time frame....meh.... when i get all the parts sourced....budget, goin on the fact that other then coating and machining different parts the only thing i need to pay for is parts.... i would think in the figure of 8 - 9k.
i am looking at more then just wackin in mega power (1j or 2j). i want to make it a sort or retro resto.
i have a MA61 'matchbox' car that my car will be modeled off.

so al in all it will cost alot and take ages.... however end result will be pretty sweet(i think anyway)
hopefully everyone will think differently when it is done.

hey there, I have a 6mge, looking at doing a bit of a restoration to it as well. I don't think I will go anywhere near what you are planning to do, but I am interested in what it is possible to with these engines.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm,

since you are going with the 2 valve head, I'd think the ITB's from the silvertop would do.... you will have to have a custom intake made... and try to figure out the linkage to the 2 additional throttles.

Not knowing all of M engines... isn't the 6M basically a 7M bottom end with a 5M head? If that is the case, I'm sure you can get a nice crank somewhere.......

Do you have a spare head? You might want to get it cut through the combustion chamber(3 cuts ideally - 1 in the center, and 1 cut each through the valves) to see how much room you'll have for porting.

    Custom pistons are just $$

Hmmmmmmm 2ndary brainfart here.... the 5M was a very good torquey engine, have you thought about making it supercharged???

A few years ago I rebuilt the old 5/6m engines used in Peter Williamson's GpA Supra. The cams were TRD custom ones, nothing like I've seen from any of the mass-makers , but I could re-make new ones if we can find blanks. Duration about 320 degrees and 8mm lift from memory. used custom Cosworth pistons and Carrillo rods. It used a single TB as thats what the rules required.
These old engines ran on very primitive ECU's so anything decent made today would be OK. it mostly depends on how much extra stuff you want the ECU to drive, eg shift light, cold start, fans etc etc
I have all the tech info at work and will be able to help out.

hey guys thanks for the new interest... thought everyone just assumed i was nuts for attempting it when 1/2 JZ are around... all custom work i should be able to get my old man for i'll probably get hold of a head for cross section cuts when i no i have all the kit to go....
Terryo- i'm interested in those cams... that would be good reading any info you may have.

Derekjay - what is your 6m goin to go in to??

    I love the look of the 5,6 MG,s , a 6 M. Also has more lower down torque than any other N A , M engine .
I remember back in the day some 15 years ago dropping skids with my 6M , 1st then pop it into 2nd letting the revs settle to about 2000 rpm holding a awsome line locker.
I'm very keen for some hicomp pistons for my 6 M .
Maybe a group buy on pistons.

i love just seeing an engine not covered by vacum lines and other random crap...

My 6M is sitting in my MZ12.

I am thinking of pulling it out getting it rebuilt / rebuilding myself (depending on time and money), getting the car resprayed while it is out and then putting it back in.

    This is my inspiration: http://forums.celicasupra.com/showthread.php?t=39157

If you haven't already checked out this 6M build it is very very nice.
