Can I ask why the 6mge?
2JZGE - If you want to stay NA would be a much better, easier and cost effective path for the same power if you ask me!
Have a look at the Adpatronic ECU, it's quite cheap and feature packed.

Hi guys, I have recently purchased a complete 6mge and I’m looking at some decent power coming from it.
There is a lot of information i need about what major parts I could use...
The engine is going into an MA61 and I’m looking at higher compression, massive head work (bigger valves, ground cams or brand name and vernier cam gears), I’m also going down the track of ITB's.
So what I want to know is:
What ITB's can be used (modifying used ones or buying purposed built)?
What mid price range ECU would have all the goodies? I want the ECU to be lap top programmable able to control fuel and ignition, monitor exhaust gas and trim fuel and also idle up for A/C and other auxiliaries
What high comp pistons are good 10:1 or 10.5:1?
If any knows of brand name cams for the 6mge
I would appreciate any input
Cheers
Warrick

If you must stick with the M block surely you would be better off getting a 7M head?
what power do you expect to get? what is the car for?
I'd go 2jzge too.
yeh everyone has said for me to go either a 7m or a jz..... the main reason is purely looks i love the look of the 5/6M head.... i want something different i'm not after 300kw or anything crazy. but i would like to think i was able to get 300hp and rev to 8000.... it'll end up more noise then anything. with ITB's and a side pipe, i'm sure it'll turn heads (they may just have plenty of time to look)

wilbo i'll have to check that ecu out cheers...
you sold your MA61 a while back. do you know if the new owner would be needing his rear hatch...
ever since i sold mine to you i havent been able to get another in as good condition![]()
man, id whack a set of carbs on it and enjoy the smell of overfuelling... get the whole package, poor power, poor economy, great noice, great smell.

yeh it's an option...however i like the thought of old skool car with power from the same era...
they used the 6mge in power boats revvig them to 8-9000 rpm which would sound so sweet![]()
Buy some PC Dyno software and see if their is any potential method to get a streetable N/A 6MG to make 300hp before commiting to this. It is going to be BIG money to do a build to that level, significantly more than a 2JZ-GTE conversion I would expect with the amount of custom work and RnD that would need to go into getting the old 2 valve head to flow that kind of numbers.
Make sure your dream is in some way feasible before deciding to pursue it or the only ending will be disappointment. Well for you at least I'm sure there are plenty of people that would be happy to say "I told you so"![]()
throw a set of webers on it it will sound and probably go great.
not sure how revvy it will be with a 2valve head and a long stroke but see how you go
wiseco pistons for 7m's are around $800 posted from the states... 6m shouldnt be much different. from memory they were around 11 or 11.5:1
There is no substitute for PUBIC inches
Never late in an x8
6M,s are known for there low down torque . Most have cam issues now as the lube to the lobes was a little sub standard wearing out the lobes.

joshstix: custom work and labour is my strong point as i have 'DADS RACING' on my side.the only thing i need to worry about is parts.
andrew: not sure about the webbers for street use or driving daily. it was a thought
a bigger/ higher flowing oil pump and different coatings should be able to correct any problems that the cams may have.
cheers for all points.
I found this on youtube - 6mge with ITB's revving to apparently 8000rpm - sounds the part anyway
search:
6M-JEP+ITB revs to 8000 rpm

doesnt sound very good, maybe it hit 8000RPM during valve bounce, but i'd aspire to sounding a bit cooler than that.
