Default Battery arcd out - car wont start

    G'day,

Today my battery shifted and caused the positive terminal to touch Earth and the car stopped and now it wont start again. It turns over but has no spark. the lights n wipers still work and i cant find any blown fuses.

I assume its stuffed computer and guessing changing that will get it going again?

Its a silvertop in a ae82 with the standed toyota ecu

theres three big ones in a row on the positive side of the terminal and they are fine

Theres also some blade fuses along with some relays in a black box beside the battery and they also appear fine.

I dont know of any other ones or these ''fusible links''

    Check every fuse!

    I.e:

Pos+ terminal, Fuse boxes in engine bay, kick panel fuses.

Highly unlikely you have fried a component unless you have dodgy wiring/backyard spec.

i have done this once (to an extent) while replacing an alternator and it ended up being a 7.5A in the drivers kick panel and an 80A on the positive terminal.

Definatly check the Battery volts as well. A low of energy can be drawn in that short space of time during the short and can flatten the battery.

as above, check all fuses (incl kick panel) and all fusable links (the really highly rated amp ones)

If there's a fuse between batter and computer, you should be fine (which there should be, depending on who wired up the engine for you)

generally will blow a fuse in the driver kick panel. did it several times whilst messing around with my old celica. 10A from memory.
how are you checking the fuses by the way? id recommend using either a test light or a multimeter and checking cross each fuse, not using a common earth

or the eye-o-meter ... although the eye-o-meter does pick up 95% of blown fuses

1- The engine turns over and the lights etc work

2- There are no blown fuses or wiring problems

3- The fuel pump does not prime when ignition is turned to on

4- There is powerd going to the computer

    5- There is no spark

According to the wiring diagram here http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...20vdiagram.jpg the fuel pump is only controlled via start and the afm so it shouldnt prime anyway? You can test this by putting ignition to on and then opening the afm manually. (i.e. take the intake piping off and push the flap the pump should turn on)

Due to lack of spark the computer won't fire the injectors so need to work out why its not sparking first.
Do you have a spare ignitor you could try? Possibly a cam angle sensor/dizzy?

Ahh ok i was thinking the computer had something to do with controlling the spark..

So in theory its possible to crank the engine and it will produce spark without even having the computer connected ?

Unfortunatly this is my first toyota so i have no yet accumulated any parts.. i have enough spares to build another falcon on the other hand

So where is the ignitor located?. Is that the most likely thing to flog out given the circumstances?
