    Default car wont start

ok, i have a RD colt, lately it has been weird
it wouldnt start in the morning but u can clutch it no worries, as if the battery is dead, but my wife had no worries at lunch time and after work, but every so often it woundt start after work, but she just clutched it again.

now its getting worse, it wont even try to crank over, even whith 12.6v in the new battery and a set of jumpers off the cressy which is showing 14.4v

it seems like i have a dead starter, does this seem like the general consensus

sounds like the starter or the starter relay,

next time, take a broom out to the car with you, if it doesnt want to turn over, give the starter motor and solenoid a good couple of wacks with the broom handle,

did the job for an old shitter that mum used to have years ago

    blake

i did whack it a bit, but its under the inlet manifold,

if i rip out the starter is there a way i can "jump" it to see if it works

yep, just attach the battery POSITIVE to the BIG terminal on the solenoid, and the negative to the body,

if it sounds unhealthy/turns (rough noise's) slowly or does nothing, its rooted

its should spin up quickly, and sound smooth, if its good, m,aybe grab another from the wreckers $20 id assume

could also be that the starter motor solenoid is not getting 12V when you put the key to STA, locate the wire from teh switch in the the engine bay and use it to trigger a relay that's fed from a decent 12V which then powers the solenoid.

other way of fixing said mitsu shibox requires tin of petrol and some matches.

either solenoid isn't getting a decent signal (see relay thing above) or the starter's cactus - i'd try the wiring solution first before removing starter.
