Off the diff subject for a post or two.
How does one mate the W55/58 to the 4A motors?
Which bell housing is used?

Custom as no factory bellhousing matches up, Nite Parts from NZ is supposed to be very good quality.

You don't need IRS, and given the difficulty/expense of getting IRS in a TA22 I'd suggest you don't want it either. As mentioned earlier the MA61 semi trailing arm IRS isn't especially good anyway, so if you went down this path you'd want to use something better such as S13/S14 Silvia IRS (double wishbone).Originally Posted by weapon x
LSD isn't necessarily something you need but when you've got a decent amount of power you definitely want it. What's the point of having power if you just light up one wheel everywhere? Two wheel traction is what you need to get the power to the ground, and that's where an LSD comes in. You can either get a T series LSD centre to suit your existing diff, or upgrade the entire diff to a stronger one (eg F series) and put an LSD centre in that.

I thought I might have missed something all these years.

cheers for the info guys...
very good to know all these things, before one carries the pain of putting money into something one shouldn't.
as for the remarks to the 4a being a "small" motor... my mates celica... 11 sec 1/4 mile.... not bad for a "pueny" motor hey...
another question... is it worth putting disks on the back? if the front do most of the work, how much does the back really do?
The rear brakes don't do much, so it may or may not be worth upgrading them depending on how you use the car. If the car will see any circuit work some decent rear discs are a must, but for street and occasional drag strip use it's not really necessary.
