its probly the hydrolic lifters filling up with oil thats why the noise will go away after 3 seconds... leave the car unstarted for a couple months i bet the noise will continue for a minute or too

if it is only for the first 3 seconds then id say its just lifters priming, my '03' navara does the same thing on cold days and its only got 60,000 on the odometer

    1G's don't have hydraulic lifters...

My 1g runs the same pressures as yours. I've been a little wary of the noises it makes, but i always am with any engine. Mine makes the knocking noise for a while when warming up, apparently it is fitted with CP pistons. I took it to Silverwater Auto as i was concerned about the noise level from the top end but they told me it was normal. I also watched a video on youtube and that engine sounded the same. Guess they are just a little noisy!

my oil pressures about the same as those shown here for a 1G-GTE though i use 10w30 semi syn not 15w40. i was told that the oil gallerys on a 1G just aren't big enough to use an oil much thicker than this, it may also explain the relatively low oil pressures compared to some other engines.
also as mentioned in previous posts mine "knocks" and seems to be from the cylinder head area. its always done it, can't find out for sure what causes it, still pulls like a train upto 6600rpm on 1.3bar boost, so i'm gonna leave well alone
Remembering that 1G's need love too!

I would be a bit wary of your engine builder if he is talking about the noise being a nasty lifter noise, as has been mentioned they run shims ( which he should be well aware of !! ) so the noise is not going to change with or without oil pressure, my 1JZ has a slight knock on start up & i'm sure it is bearing noise as the noise goes away as soon as the oil pressure light goes out, if it was piston slap as has been mentioned it will be there for at least a minute or more until the piston starts to expand as the temp increases & you usually will not hear piston slap at idle ...

I have been thinking about fitting up a oil pressure supply tank, it feeds the oil galleries with oil under pressure on start up.. It can also be used / helpfull to stop oil surge starvation on hard cornering too, i think Morroso do one ..

if your building a motor, do a search on the forums for 6boost oil modifications. They explain the mods kyle did to his 9 sec 1g.
