Hey guys,
Took the dizzy out and silly me never having done it before made markings on the flange. I was playing with the rotor spinning it around when I realised oh shit, this was what I was supposed to mark!
So now the ignition timing will be out. I'm a mega nub but I can follow instructions and want to learn as much as I can so I want to do this myself.
Can someone tell me if this is the correct method:
1. Make sure cylinder 1 is at TDC (compression stroke).
This is done by aligning the camshaft pulley groove to 0. Then checking to see the cavity of the camshaft after removing the oil filler cap.
2. Once cylinder 1 is at TDC, turn the rotor to point at the #1 spark plug wire on the distributor cap.
Is it as simple as that? Also when it points at the spark plug post on the distributor cap does it need to be pointed right in the centre of it and a few mm makes a difference or is it okay if i get it as accurately as I can, lining it up with a tape measure.
Cheers,
Thu
Edit: Engine is a 4A-GE in an AE86.
