    Default 18R-C ignition timing

Hey guys, probably a dumb question but ive never adjusted timing before.

On these engines which is the number 1 cylinder?

What do the timing marks mean on the crankshaft pulley? I can see 2 marks, | and || .

    is | TDC ??

    thanks guys

    hi ryan
    its not a dumb question
no 1 is the cylinder closest to the front of the car or thermostat housing
take out the spark plug from no 1 , and rotate the engine by hand with a thin screw driver down the plug hole ,when the screw driver reaches its highest point of travel, thats TDC
all things being well ,you marks on the harmonic balancer /crank pulley ,should be in line the other marks are degrees before TDC etc
    i hope that this helps

The II mark is the TDC mark and the one separate is the idle speed timing mark. Think its 7 or 8 degrees before top dead centre. The timing mark is the timing at idle with no vacuum advance. Pull the vacuum hose off the distributor and block the end then check your idle is between 950 and 1000 RPM and then set your timing to the mark. Done.
