Should i buy a Clutch aglinment tool?

Have never used any tool for aligning clutches dont like them just a good eye and a screwdriver works wonders(I've done probly a coupla hundred)and have never gone wrong.

Is the old box gonna be able to assist me or not? I like the socket set idea, i got one that may do the trick, but just incase i will take a broom and stuff, should be easy, hopefully it'll be nice and simple

perhaps you could borrow the input shaft off a munted box of someone elses.. you don't need to hack it off, the whole input shaft is not that long.

thats how we alaign them at school easy peasy but ive done it with my fingers/eyes before too.

is the old box fu@ked? cos if it is get a grinder and cut the imput shaft off they are the best clutch aligning tool around ! this way it lines the plate up perfect with the spigiot bearing

As far as I know the only thing this is for is to get the gearbox in in the first place, and it isn't hard to align it just for that. It's not mm perfect, but the first time you put your foot on the clutch it will align itself...

I also have a cut input shaft (an another made from the output shaft of an auto with a spigot extension welded on!) that you can borrow gav

(and unlike that mean shane guy I won't charge you anything , shame on you shane ).

I did my first 2 clutches with a M12? bolt in the spigot and eye, no dramas.

Can't say I'd like to do a twin plate without an input shaft tho!

You have to be carful when you borrow things out, cause this last time I let someone borrow my bearing puller, they wanted to grind the thing up

Old input shaft for the win, they align it spot on

Ive allways thought that too but some people seem to think its wrong ie: "If you dont align it perfect you will munch out things" etc etc.

I always thought that if its miss aligned then you fight it to get the box in, a standard clutch may slide but in my case a 5 puck brass button with a large clampng force is gonna be hard to move with the clutch on

If its not dead central, or within 1mm of central, you will not be able to bolt the box up if the pressure plate is tight.

The other option is to loosely do up the PP, put the box on, then carefully remove the box so that you don't move the clutch, and then tighten the plate down.

i used eyesight and my fingers to align my 3 puck ceramic button clutch shouldnt be an issue

i got the $60-70 aligning tool frm bursons. didnt have a very perfect size for the 4age ones. still needed quite an effort to put gearbox into engine, in the car that is. guess the shaft was too big for the "punani"
