Default 3T GTE crank angle sensor?

    Hi all,
Haven't been here for a while, my car has been sitting idle for months now...

Anyway, I'm trying to get motivated to rebuild the 3T GTE with the forgies, moroso sump etc I already have but also need to upgrade my crank angle sensor to make way for the new intake.

I'm currently running a Microtech LTX8 with a locked 3T GTE dizzy. Does anyone know where I can buy an appropriate set up that will fit neatly to my main crank pulley?

Even better if you know someone that makes these to suit or has one for sale..

    Cheers,
    Simon

Some of the 18R-G boys (and girls?) are forced to go this route when switching to aftermarket computers.

What is normally done is to have a trigger wheel made up and mounted on to the nose of a modified crank pulley, then mount a generic Hall sensor (?) and use that. They all work well, however some setups are a lot neater than others.

    Turbotoy,
That looks great. Can you confirm the type of sensor and where I can get one of these from?

    Cheers,
    Simon

I used a Cherry Hall effect sensor. GS100102 There are many gear tooth sensors you can use this one was the easiest for me to install. I also used it because it had some internal logic, EMI, ESD protection, and stainless steel body.

P.S. The sensor in the picture has an aluminum body. This was a first revision. I switched to the GS100102 because of the aforementioned reasons. Also I have it on good authority that the red sensor in the picture is also sold by Haltech as a single channel sensor for a much higher price than what you can get them for from Cherry.

P.S.S. This is costume fabed up stuff. I know of no one making a setup you can buy. The closest thing is to buy a 3tc pulley that has a trigger wheel attached. I think BRD in the states has something.

    Turbotoy,
    Great info, thanks...

Can you confirm what diameter wheel you used for your engine? I'll have to call Microtech to be sure this sensor and 36 tooth wheel will work on the LTX8.

    Simon

Just another question, I currently have direct fire injection.

I assume that even with this set up I can't have full sequential becuase there is no reference to TDC on #1?

I'm trying to figure out how to get full sequential on my 3T GTE as well as have both plugs firing at the same time with full spark, eg try to use wasted spark on cylinder exhausting versus firing, if that makes sense....

    Cheers,
    Simon

take a look same sensor using the cam lobe for cam sync.

With the 36-1 wheel you can run direct fire ignition. The missing tooth provides the TDC signal. As you stated you need a cam sync signal to get sequential injection.

Nice work, have you found using that sensor on the cam lobe to be reliable? When you set it up I assume you had the cam at TDC at the same time as the crank?

I'll have to check if the Mircotech has facility for these two hall effect signals...

Any issues with oil leaks from the thread?

    Cheers,
    Simon

Honestly I forgot to use sealant on the threads. It hasn't leaked yet. The tap I used cost like $50 US.I set the timing based on the haltech manual so you will have to do the same with the Microtech. If I remember you just need a cam sync signal in between the #4 cylinder signal and the #1 signal. But be sure and read the manual. This setup gave me direct fire ignition and sequential injection. I am now using 720cc injectors getting ready for E85 and idles better than ever.

P.S. This is where I got my wheel. I don't remember what size. Get one large enogh to extend past the pulley so you wont get interference from pulley itself.
