My only input on this is that a Fun Day does NOT count as a track day as it is, a) not timed; and b) you cannot drive your car the way you can on a Test and Tune Day; thus you cannot nominate a time that you can consistently match.
Basically all i am suggesting was that people need to have enough experience on the Winton track to nominate a sensible lap time. Since the whole concept of the event is consistency, they need to know that they can stick to that time consistently.
The 6hour is definitely a fun event but it's also got a competetive element to it. It's a team event and in order for the team to do well, all the drivers need to pull their weight.
eg: In the 2008 6hour we had one guy do 10 laps with 8 of them faster than his nominated time. The above scenario is what we're trying to avoid.
Whether it was inexperience, or the driver just didn't care, it effectively lost the team a bunch of points.
We would have been better off not having a car on the track for that time.
Sprint days are for going as fast as you can. The 6 Hour Regularity Relay is for striving to match your lap time. In order to do that effectively, you need experience.

Actually, there is potentially more value in a fun day than you may initially think. You will be subjected to a more "real" idea about how many cars will be on the track during the 6 hr than on a sprint day - experience with track traffic is def a good thing.
Re: timing- We can have people on the side timing manually.
Assumption is the mother of all f**kups...
I guess you kinda need to do both, so you can see how much traffic affects your lap times compared with laps times on a clear track.

its not a big issue about previous track experience
if you can remember we got crazy through it , and he ran ok
nostalgia is not what it used to be:
Agreed, but it's also a competition and a team competition at that. Having the hypothetical situation where one member of the team forgets the regularity and time target aspects of the event and begins to treat it as a time trials event detracts from the aforementioned fun factor. So too does haveing an untested vehicle fail during the race. At least if the entrants cars have been tested at a couple of prior events, the likelyhood of failure can be diminshed and, if failure does occur then they are simply a part of racing and not due to poor prep.
I'm sure that Slim's assertion that drivers get some good quality track time is also in order that they be able to test their vehicle for possible failure points.
It's not a cheap event for the teams in time nor money. Last year around $2000 and tens of hours were spent on the club car (funds supplied almost entirely by one member I am told), and almost $1000 and more than one all-nighter were supplied another celica by an entrant who owned 2 of the cars running in the team.
Also, improving by over 20 places between the 2008 and 2009 events is a shitload of fun for the guys who ran in both i'm sure. Finishing in the top ten would be twice as much fun again![]()

Asif anyone would listen to what af300e has to say...seriously.
Yah, Slim. I be there.
So, in the building itself then?
ie. Belgian Beer Cafe Bluestone, rather than Belgian Beer Cafe Garden.
It'll be hot tomorrow. We could sit outside like last year?
I would like to attend this meeting at the garden of beer, (that makes me picture a beer foutain that you just hold you glass under for the pefect beer everytime) hmm sorry about that.
I got rugby training so I can't make it. I'll hassle Ed to keep me informed.
Belgian Beer Cafe Bluestone and Belgian Beer Cafe Garden are less than 20metres apart. They're pretty much the same place. I only said Bluestone Cafe because when you look Belgian Beer Garden up on the net, Bluestone Cafe is what comes up most prominently and appears on the Google Maps map.
