it is bolt in, wiring isnt the same though.
although im not sure a 3sge will offer you much more power, the 3sfe is still a decent engine, i doubt the power increase (if any) will be noticable..

Hey guys! i dont really know jack about toyots, as i have previously owned an rx7 and now a vl turbo. Ive always had my camry as a runabout and first car and it FINALLY died yesterday
Came back from queensland (im in nsw) it started knocking and on the way home from the pub BANG! Got it home and found a nice big hole were the oil filter used to be![]()
ANYWAYS! ive been hanging to do another conversion since the rb30et so i was just wanting to know IS it a bolt in affair to get the n/a 3sge in a sv21?
I have nooooooooo intentions of going turbo or anything like that, i just wanted something with a bit more go then the 3sfe.
Ill be doing it all myself. Ive been searching like crazy and all i can seem to find is that it will bolt in but i would need to do some wiring..... kinda looking for a lil more info then that before i go and buy a new engine
Oh and my camry is a manual aswell.
If anyone can help me my msn is [email protected]
Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends what version 3S-GE you go, but they are rated between 135hp (100kw) for the early models (in the ST162), up to 180hp (134kw) for the later models.Originally Posted by EldarO

My refference.
So you should notice a power increase. If you look at the site I sent, the torque comes on about 400rpm later for the GE models, and is comparable in amount to the FE models, so you'll probably find it has a similar low end too, and wont be too peaky.

all camry 3sfe are about 85kw arnt they? Its the RAV4 3sfe thats 104 right?? A 134kw 3sge in a camry would be nice. The actually handle ok them carmys.
According to auto.vl.ru, the later model Camry had the 100kw version of the 3S-FE. However, that doesn't mean it ever made it to Australia.Originally Posted by Koffee-Black
The SV21 in japan, had a 3S-FE putting out 88kw. I'd say that's close enough to 85kw to call them the same power figure. You know how dynos are.
So even with the ST162 gen 1 3S-GE you should see quite a marked power increase, from 85kw to 100kw. Although I'd recomend going to a gen 3 3S-GE, as it'll give you around 134kw, and be a much nicer jump from your old 85kw engine.![]()

You might have flywheel related issues. They changed from the Gen 1 3S-GE (ST162) to the Gen 2 3S-GE (MR2's, Caldina's from Japan, ST182 Celicas ex-japan). So it might be best to use the engine and gearbox from the 3S-GE rather than just the engine - although if you measure them up and the flywheels have the same bolt pattern, and line up with your starter motor, then you should be right.
The ECU and wiring will all have to be from the 3S-GE - and you may have to do some fiddling of your own there too.
The power and torque difference between the 3S-GE's and the 3S-FE's will be VERY noticeable due to the fact that the combustion chamber and valve design *essentially* makes them totally different engines in a performance sense.
If there's one thing I know, it's never to mess with mother nature, mother in-laws and mother freaking Ukrainians

But RWD is on the money.
Shouldn't have any issues per see with fitting the engine in, will have to use the camry front engine mount on the 3sge engine, and possibly gearbox mount is different i can't remember exactly.
If you were to use the 3sge gearbox you'd need to use the driveshafts from the celica st162, but i believe they might be longer and may need some modifications. I'm going on converting a carb sv21 to 3sge. The carb 3s-f engines has simular driveshafts to the 4a engines (ie thin as a pencil compared to the GE's)
Wiring shouldn't be a too much of a problem as long as you can wire up the basics such as the fuel pump (EFI models should be easy compared to converting from carb model)
Starter, Ignition and a few other odds and ends (tacho) to at least have the car up and running.

I wasn't including the BEAMS 3S-GE, as I didn't think that would be an option, but perhaps I should have as it's an awesome idea. The VVTi 3S-GE start from 190hp and 152lb-ft all the way up to 210hp and 159lb-ft. Although, considering the cost of them, it might be overkill for a Camry.Originally Posted by urantia
Perhaps rather than just getting an engine, you should get a whole front cut? Then you'll get engine, drive shafts, brakes, ecu etc, assuming they all fit length wise.
EDIT: Oops, typed NM, meant lb-ft. Cheers 7MA61.

might wanna review though torque figure nim i'd say they are well wrong and possibly actully Lb/foot rather than Nm.
If in doubt power out
i think the 210-220HP beams are in RWD altezza territory. I can't confirm if 190HP or 200HP is the highest fwd beams in stock form. the red top and blacktops in fwd version only have the intake cam with variable timing.

As you can see, the manual Altezza one is probably the best. I don't, however, see a 220hp variant, but that could just be different reports of the same power figure.
You'd be better off with a Celica ST202 engine / front cut though, as it'll have the gearbox attached for FWD and all the right mounts.
That is if you decide to go with the somewhat silly idea of a 3S-GE BEAMS.Awesome as the BEAMS would be, I think you'd be better off with a Gen III 3S-GE from the earlier ST202. Even though it only has ~170hp.

You will probably want to get yourself a front cut of a FWD 3S-GE. I have heard of someone in Newcastle that did it with a Rear Cut MR2.
