I would also like to know as i have been told NO! but would be interested in the guys who have tried to fit one and tell me how they don't fit. Maybe pictures?

If it doesn't fit you may be able to change your rear housing to that of a T-18/ae86 one, this will move the shifter back though
This is very interesting read regarding the comments above. Its from a Members ride thread here on Toymods. Hope the dude don't mind me quoting him here...

If you click the link below to the TA22 gearbox you'll see the cast iron bit that the gearstick pivots in is angled where it meets the rest of the box. The AE86 or 22 spline box has a different rear housing where the bit the gearstick pivots in meets the gearbox horizontally. Since a shortshift kits spaces the pivot point up further from the box its much easier to make a spacer for the AE86 box than the TA22 box.
I'm not sure i have explained that clearly. Does it make sense?

Yes that is why i'm showing interest.
In fact i have just confirmed that the TA22 T50 gear lever will NOT fit into a 22 spline T18 or AE86 T50 transmission. I took a series of Pictures providing a good comparison and will post them up tonight.
Basically the entire setup is different! - Actually it's all opposite.

Okay so here are the picture to support my previous post
Here you can see a TA22 fitted with a T50 (20 spline) gearbox with the gear lever popped out. What you should notice is;
- the square-ness of the 4 bolt holes where the plate bolts onto the box
- also the bottom of the gear lever itself has two prongs (male fittings if you like) that locates into the gearbox
- the tip of the lever has a flat section
- here is a top view of the TA22 20 spline gearbox showing two slots that assist locating the gear lever in place and the where the flat tip goes into that moves the gears about
Here you can see images of a 22 Spline T50 from a 4AGE with the gear lever from the TA22 gearbox on the left for comparison. Take note of the following;
- the 22 spline T50's plate is far more rectangular than the plate of the TA22 gear lever plate
- you should take note that the 22 spline gear box lever is held in place by a circlip where as the TA22 T50 is simply bolted in and held in place using the square like plate
- the two gear levers side by side you can see the 22 spline T50 lever on the right has slots (female fittings if you like) that assist locating it into the gearbox
- the 22 spline gearbox also has provision for a circular ball at the tip instead of the flat tip that the TA22 20 spline gear lever has
- a better picture inside the 22 spline gearbox showing where the circular ball fits into
- also the male like prongs that assist locating the lever in the correct location

Epic info there mate! Much appreciated...
The shifter in my TA22 is quiet short, but I'm yet to check whether it's just been cut down or not
It seems as though the gear knob is glued on maybe.... Which would indicate cutting of the shifter..
Thanks again for the pics, +rep for you!!

A bit more to it than that Im afraid. Need to split the box and change shifter shafts as well as housing and shifter
Tried to cover it here but my wording might confuse more than help...

Ahh bummer, if you want to do something a little easier then
EARLY T-18 (79 maybe 80 model, chrome bumpers but check. I know for sure the plastic bumper model had a 22 spline output shaft) are 20 spline with a T bellhousing, will swap right in![]()
