It's actually 30 rep to be a privileged user... But, I totally agree about making it 100...

just take care when giving out rep...too easy

The admin can delete any rep left by a certain user. Although on a large forum like this it may not be an option if there are alot of people doing that

And that is why those of us with high rep have to think carefully before awarding any rep 'cos sometimes you feel that +30 (which I currently can give) is too much. Moreso, it's harder when applying -ve rep as I can give out -15 and most times I'd like to be able to take way a lot less than that.

Trust me, people don't say anything when they get +30, but they howl like little girls when they get a -15!

I have mentioned it before, but it would be good to be able to award/remove a variable amount of rep points between your limit.

The rep system is all ass about. You SHOULD accumulate neg rep for dumb posts so forum members can be wary. But, all forum members are created equal i reckon, until they demonstrate otherwise.....then -ve rep their dumb/rude/weird arses and hope they learn from their mistake (maybe reset back to zero after 6 months?)

    Anyways, just my Friday rant.

I feel that too many rep points are awarded in this area. I see the technical aspects to be more aligned with the direction the Club wants the forums to go, and one's reputation should reflect their technical savy, as opposed to their wit and humour.

While wit and humour are great assets, it doesn't offer much in the way of technical assistance. The rep system should be configured to award those that offer techncial guidance. Currently, when someone sees someone elses rep they really have no idea whether that rep was earned through technical prowess or the ability to post humourous and witty posts.

Yup, Old Man River is a wise one....

Most of the established members of the old forum are now well and truely on their way up the rep tree, most would have gained at least 100 rep in the year and a bit this new forum has been operating. I third 100 for priv. user now, as rep is easier to come by(not that I'm complaining). Maybe one for the board?

maybe this 100+ rep should be only accepted if founded from techincal sections as opoosed to classifieds and general discussions ?? I know that the majority of my rep is not from techincal section(s), but in order to learn i have no choice but to come from the advice from others before me, therefore disabling me from being able to contribute to technical discussions (as my knowledge has obviously came from others which have already posted the useful information).

    Just another perspective

I agree 100% with River, Im sure there is far to much rep "earned" with irelevant crap. I refuse to give rep unless I feel it has made the forum a better place. Unfortunately there are many that spend most of their time in the "wrong" sections and just gather rep for no valid reason.

    It gives me the shits

Black, I know how you feel but you seem to have earned a decent amount there. All anyone needs to do to really "earn" some rep is have a good members rides thread and help out others where you can I believe, although not exactly tech based it does enhance the forum in general.

On the topic of reduced rep in the non car discussion forum, there isn't a way to limit the value of a rep vote that I can find. I have however figured out how to stop the rep button from being available in specific forums and will be floating the idea at tomorrows board meeting to have it removed from non-car.

a top idea btw...for instance the thread about the food going missing from work...i thought it was a little innapropriate for people to be giving out rep for guessing what time the food was going missing...seeing the whole purpose of rep was meant to be for giving good information in the technical areas of the forum...

All this sounds like an advanced plot to destroy my chances of reaching the dizzying heights of 100 rep points..
Maybe I should stick my head in a few Car manuals to give myself a chance of not being considered an eternal noob due mainly to my lack of mechanical prowess.

Either way I'm sure you'll all make the right decision for the forum and it's members.

    Hi,

    Not a bad idea Josh.

It will be an interesting experiment, should it be approved, to see what the posting will be like in the NCD area.

Will people post any crap and flame each other as there is no penalty for such behaviour? Or, will the NCD dry up as people used it as a method to get easy rep?
