Yeah, but is that forum a technical based forum like we are? I havent seen that forum before....
I think people have just simply lost sight of why we have the reputation system in the first place. I thought the idea was a rough guide or scale to rate peoples technical knowledge on? IE so you have more of an idea about if what the person is telling you is actually true before you go doing something to your car you're not sure about.
BUT remember, you have to also read the rep in conjunction with how long the user has been registered on toymods, and how many posts they have made in that time, and which forums they post in most often. You cant shrug someone off as knowing nothing cos their rep is 40, if they have only been on the forums for a month, and only made 10 posts. For all you know, they could be the next YLD-16L!But time will always tell with that person anyway.
I say make the rep system Tech&Conv and General car talk only. If we are going to carry on as a technical forum, then we should at least have people's reputation reflect their technical knowledge as best possible.
I do admit that I have received reputation in the non-tech forums, like we all have. Despite it giving you a warm fuzzy feeling inside, i dont really think its that necessary. I do also receive a lot of rep in the technical sections. When I first joined toymods I had a fair bit of mechanical experience and knowledge, but I now know a CRAP LOAD more having spent time on these forums, modding my car even more, and sharing with others.
Honestly its all getting too carried away. We should just stick to the K.I.S.S. principle and save all this heartache....
