OK there is no way to do this without messing with the code which I'd rather avoid so that we can still get support from vbulletin if things hit the fan.

On the up side though they are working on enhancing the reputation system so that there can be a variety of admin specified types of rep to give out. This will make it more usefull to tell if someone is a good contributor to the forum or they just got their rack out.

Of late that's proving to be quite a good way to get rep, sadly doesn't work for me

Damn... i just did that too

Thought i'd search for answers before asking the mods, but seems as if there is no way of cancelling rep?

shame, cos the guy was on -15 and certainly didn't deserve any +rep, someone gave him +8, and I accidently gave him +6, now he's nearly positive!!!

yeah... someone who happens to post "wanted" threads for cheap cars.. beats ppl down to the bottom dollar, then sells them back for ridiculously high prices?

That I could maybe just handle... but when I realised it is ONLY thing he is doing on this forum is when I got pissed off!

I hate that, I always try a neg rep somebody and in my fury (couldn't think of a better word) I end up forgetting to change the selection to "I disapprove"... Grrr!

This time I remembered though, and he copped a -4!

Timbo and Cuzzo I have gone and changed your rep votes to negatives for you.

I'll be discussing this with the other guys on the board and look at having a new group that has no posting rights in the classifieds for users with a negative rep level.

in a way, this is also not a bad system
perhaps it forces people to slow down and think a little and rep out of conscious decision and not fury/malice...

but i have made the mistake too

As I said, couldn't think of a better word... Fury, it is not, but frustration at people's stupidity it is...

I feel like -repping myself for my own stupidity after forgetting to swith to "I disapprove"!

    As do I...

It was my own stupid stupid mistake, and I don't mind at all if it stays as it is. I guess I just posted my mistake here so others could laugh at me for being such a moron!

As it turns out, admin went beyond their call of duty and might right my wrong. Guess that's one of the things that makes this place such a good forum!

    Hi,

I'd like rep to be a max of +1/-1, no matter what, for posts in the Non Car Discussion thread.

I feel that too many rep points are awarded in this area. I see the technical aspects to be more aligned with the direction the Club wants the forums to go, and one's reputation should reflect their technical savy, as opposed to their wit and humour.

While wit and humour are great assets, it doesn't offer much in the way of technical assistance. The rep system should be configured to award those that offer techncial guidance. Currently, when someone sees someone elses rep they really have no idea whether that rep was earned through technical prowess or the ability to post humourous and witty posts.

Also, while I'm on my high horse, I think the current requirements for having 40 rep points to be able to gain some priveleges is now too low. When the forums first started we could only add/remove 1 rep point, and it took a while to build up your rep. Now it is possible to get the required rep with one or two people (with high rep) to award some points. It should be lifted to at least 100 to make the newbs work a little harder, as we had to when the forums were new, to gain some rep and respect.
