Default Setting distributor (1G-GTE, no rotor button)

Does anyone have a clear idea of how to orient the dizzy on a 1G-GTE without the rotor button? It's setup as just a CAS, so the button is gone...I've assumed that the flat on the shaft faces the end of the button, and tried that, but no joy...have I got this wrong, or is there another problem?

    1. set crank at 0deg
    2. align multi tooth wheel AND reset wheel with respective reluctor pickup
    3. check with timing light
