    Default 1UZFE Timing belts

Hey guys the time has come to do the timing belt in my UZS131

Is it a hard job? I am quite confident dong it without a manual are there any little tricks that some one can pass on and any torqure figures for tensioners etc.

Also should I go full toyota, or one of the timing belt kits on ebay? I haven't yet priced toyota up

I will be doing water pump at the same time too.

    thaks in advance stitt

Its not a hard job. It is a time consuming job.

There is a guide available on the web but I can't remember where atm.

There is also the toyota tsrm available, but once again I can't remember where. (Has torque settings etc.)

(They are on my home computer so will post them tonight).

In terms of cost, if you used all new toyota parts the prices are as follows.
I'd use at the very least a toyota timing belt. The belt has extra installation marks on it, which makes it alot easier to make sure everything is lined up correctly.
PS. The tensioner is only available as a complete unit, its cheaper if you press the bearings out of them and go to a bearing shop to get replacements.

i found genuine parts were also cheaper than aftermarket.

If you've done timing belts before it is pretty much the same.

Dayco do a full kit for this (cept water pump). HEAPS cheaper than genuine, and still Australian quality.

    Kit comes with 1 x belt, 2 x bearings, 2 x cam seals, 1 x crank seal. (~$200)
You'll need to buy the tensioner separately. (~$120)

Water pump I'd get genuine. (~$160)

You may as well get new coolant and thermostat while you are at it, as it'll be 10x easier with the radiator removed. (~$80)

Also may as well do dizzys, rotors, leads, plugs too. (~$400 non genuine)

    Hope that helps...

The biggest drama, as always, is undoing the harmonic balancer bolt. You will need a real good impact gun. I ended up making a special tool that bolts into the puller holes and has a long bar welded on to it to hold the pulley still. Also look at doing at least the front crank seal.

Other than that it is really quite an easy job. Just real time comsuming as already mentioned.

Also, while you are in there. Check the front seal on the power steer pump. If that starts to leak the oil drops straight into the alternator and is not good for it.

    Cheers,
    Shane.

    Yeah true dat.

I made this which sits in the "spokes" of the pulley.

Didn't need to use a rattle gun though. Just a long cheater bar LOL.

if its a manual put it in forth and hard on the brakes.(may or may not work)undo bolt.

I bought for work one of those short bars that you hit with a hammer etc, mint tool.

Otherwise brakerbar on the bolt and crank her over.Just make sure you put it on the correct chassis rail,i didnt the first time and it swung right over to the otherside and damn near took of my fingers, will never ever use that method again.
