this is why i don't like those generic mounts - a single failure results in both mounts self-destructing.

passenger side collapsed - had to bend mount to stop alternator B+ terminal hitting it.

State of engine mounts after return trip from Dubbo (lower-left is driver's side - it failed first and the excessive movement then pulverised the passenger side)

For comparison, factory mount (left) versus passenger (middle) & driver's side (right)mounts:

Those are kelpro URETHANE engine mounts, which are the same for hiluxs and many many other toyotas (not just celicas).

I used them for YEARS (the one set) on my RA28, with great success. However they were not in shear tension like in RAd28's pics, they were perfectly fit.

Chuck - god knows what you did to yours there!!

FYI - both river and myself were about to fit these for our 18RGTE engines, so we'll see if that will kill them

am not sure why mine failed - except that when one let go, it killed the other.

Is not like the 18rte had 2Jz-like mount-snapping power? Maybe i had higher engine temps courtesy of the turbo setup?

Mine were mounted with the tab facing up/out (not downwards like RAd28's)

I like the factory mounts as they limit excessive movement when the rubber fails - the kelpro ones dont.

i have a 10mm spacer on the drivers side in mine, although i chopped my mount off the x-member and theyre a bit lower

Same. Chopped mounts on the xmember, to give a goot height.

Since i'm running stock turbos, I had to put a big spacer back in on the drivers side.

I've only ever had stock turbos, and never had a need for a spacer.... I don't understand what I've done wrong... 1GGE mounts on the block, rear (or is it front??? it's where the alloy GTE mounts weren't) mounting position then the REPCO (Kelpro) rubber mounts on to standard RA28 cross member... no spacer plates, nothing... no clearance issues no self destructing mounts...

    you have stock xmember?

That will help, but I thought you'll still foul the steering box

I have lowered mounts, cos the xmember came off a single turbo car which had the motor sitting a bit lower.

yeah... 100% untouched xmember... only thing I did to improve clearance for the turbos was to remove the lower heat sheild... acctually... it was more like "forgot to put it back on, then a few months later realised I should have done it before the engine went in.."

(no... I didn't spend a few months trying to figure it out...)
