Note on the second photo - there seems to be a few cobwebs building up there, want me to clean them out for you??? that is if its driving?
I presume the spacer goes on the block side? If it does it won't lift the engine much higher than if the spacer was on the rubber mount.
Also, note in the photo with the oil filter that you are missing a bolt at the top of the bracket on the engine side.

I am a little confused with what I am looking at here. My 1ggte sits on an unmodified xmember, I do not use spacers and I use 18R engine mounts along with the metal brackets off the engine that came out of my GA70 front cut (ie not the alloy mounts).
Everthing sits in place great, there is clearance for everything around the engine. I have just gone out and photos of both sides - the blue oil return pipe from the turbo is the rhs.
This setup has been in place for 9 years or so and I have done some 50k, I started with new 18R mounts and they have survived 3 badley treated engines.

Hey all, that pretty much settles it....thanks for the help, my hired help pulled up sick today, so ittl have to wait till next week....well see how it goes..
cheers for those whoe went above and beyond...huge help~!
Rotaries are cool...so why are their owners such cocks>>?
Peter - As per the photo in the first post, the spacer goes under the rubber mount on the turbo side to give more clearance for the turbos.
Jordan - Sure, come help blow those cobwebs out... but there's alot of work to be done before it's driving...
ddeane - Are those Toyota Genuine 18R mounts? the mounts in my photos, and LT1986's Photos are aftermarket ones purchased from REPCO (atleast mine were)..

hello
Can't be that rubbish... They've managed to hold that 1G up... and my mate just removed his 1G... and he had the same mounts, and they held them up fine too...
seriously... those type aren't rubbish...

Purchased from toyota, And note no spacer.
The mounts in RAd28's photo seem wrong.
RAd28 if you send me an email address I will send you a scan out of some conversions notes put together by Grant of 6Works some years ago.

seriously get rid of the stock steering setup and get a front sump for the 1g. The KE70 rack and pinion conversion is so easy and its soooo worth it! Then you won't have to worry about all this silly mount business, you can get rubbers that will do a better job and make custom crossmember mounts to suit.
Also you won't have to worry about turbo clearance, you'll get a motor that sits flat and centre in the engine bay. Wins all around I say!
ddeane - If it's the write up i'm thinking of, I used that as my bible...
3sgte - there's no metal to metal contact...
stidnam - your right.. that does sound alot easier then just putting some engine mounts in... why didn't I do a rack and pinion conversion in the first place! pffft... if I knew then what I know now...

i still think you need to change the angle on the passenger mount, i had problems with the rubber splitting.(using new 18R rubbers repco ones could be better).
I think the term direct bolt up is a bit loose.
Case
...direct bolt up/hammer/wedge/shimmy/jamwithexessiveforce...its all the same

Hey all...thought it let you know wh have lift off, my mate had the day off yesterday (poor bugger hasnt had one in months!) and we got the 1g in nice and tight!....thanks for all help, and yes the mounts were upside down!!....
for the record
you DO need the 10mm spacer on the drivers side to clear steering knuckle
you DONT need it on the passenger side
BUT
you wont need to smash the crap out of your sump as much so its worth doing anway.
cheers again all
