From what I understand you can...
Fucked if I know what it is though. I have looked into it myself, I've forgotten to get an answer on specifically what it is that you use though.
Hi all, i need to change a 1uz celsior automatic box to a speedo drive that uses a cable and not electric.
As I understand the celsior auto has 2x sensors, and the computer doesn't rely on the speedo one its completely separate.
So wondering if I can put a speedo drive from something else in that runs a cable?
Thanks
Joel

if its the same as the 2JZ A340 then it shouldnt be a prob
i done this on the 2jz MZ12 conversion.
just remove the electric sensor and gear from where the cable should be. then insert a cable type driven gear assembly
ie pull this fucker out
there was no shifting issues after i done this so it must use the other sensor
hello
^^^^that epc pic is for the aristo.
this is the ucf11 - looks the same

hello
Ok cool, so what doner gearbox did you get the cable style from?
umm w58 i think?
i think they are all the same really.
try to pick a gear with the right amount of teeth for the speedo
hello
I did the same thing as brett.Originally Posted by TurboRA28
I used MX83 bits tho, W58 won't fit
My teeth listing I created from EPC / real life trawling
Car = Speedo Gear Ratio
- MZ12 = 17:6
- MX83 = 19:6
- UZS131 = 18:6
- MA70 =18:6

What bits from the mx83 vs uzs131 did you have to mix n match?
Sorry, I might have confused the matter there...
MX83 is the same as UZS131, which is the same as the others on the list as far as I'm aware

Joel,
I see that you are looking for a mechanical MX83 sender. Just a note on the Cressida - the first series was cable and the second was electrical, or sometimes referred to as S1/S2 but that wont help for the search function. The changeover was Aug 90 so any built after then or if its a Grande (only introduced as a S2) will NOT have a mechanical speedo cable.
I will be heading to the wreckers some time this will and will pick one up for you if i find any. Do you want the whole thing or jus teh gearbox bit (not sure myself if it can be separated anywhere)?
Paul
Hey mate, that'd be awesome! Thanks.
Yeah the whole thing hey would be good that bolts into the gearbox..

Both series MX83 have the speedo drive gears.
The electrical speedo sender on the Series 2 just screws on where the cable would ussually screw on
The gearbox speedo drive gear bits are the same S1 and S2

Thanks for that Wilbo, i didnt know that the bit in the gearbox was the same.Originally Posted by wilbo666
Was more leaning towards the S1 version because it will come with the cable, although he probably already has one in the Coaster. Will keep an eye out for either sender then, and keep the one he doesnt want as a spare if i decide to go for a 3.909 final drive.

Hey all, I got a speedo thing from a 1989 MX83 today.. I noticed in the mx83 the speedo drive is on the passenger side of the gearbox instead of the driver like the 1uz auto.
Also it seems quite different to the 1uz one.. The 1uz one is like the pic above that was posted, where the whole housing bolts to the gearbox. But the mx83 one is a very simple style with the little metal tab to hold it in place.
Reckon this will work still?
Thanks
Joel
yeh i think i had to make a 'tab' to locate the speedo gear assembly.
ie the assembly merely slides and is located by the tab....
