thats what i was thinking, just thought it was a little odd that they did that rather than ran a cable as the others do. Maybe, no it must ahve saved them money lol. I cant see any other way other than it running through the block.
Could it be that it uses the block for earth/current return?

Anything the ecu uses needs it own earth, hence its not a good idea to mess with it, as it can change readings.
The guage sensor however, is not as important.

Yes, the Temp Guage sensor is pull to ground, so it uses the Block as the ground. IE the guage itself puts power to the sensor and gets the resistance off that.
