Default Electrical Help needed - Diodes+Voltage

I needed to buy some diodes 1N4001 50V 1 amp but these are not available from Jaycar. WIll 1N4001 1000V 1amp be the same or will this mess things up? I want to build a cheap voltage clamp to get rid of the boost cut on the JZX90. I found this method of the 8 diodes in line from an elctronics guru on Soarer central and he stated that the 8 diodes takes out the voltage variance of having a zener diode.

They will be fine, but I would look making an adjustable one. Run a search for FCD, there is a good one here.

This clamps at 4.15V which is perfect. I just want to run 16 psi and for 60 cents and some soldering this will do the job. Thanks for your response.

that voltage is the breakdown voltage yah?
    should be ok.

The 1N4001 has a breakdown voltage of 50V, the 1N4007 has a breakdown voltage of 1000V. Other than that they are elecrically identical so a 1N4007 can (almost) always be substituted for 1N4001.
