car power is DC, diodes convert AC to DC
I am in the process of installing an alarm and some other electrical stuff into my RA23 and am having big problems getting things to work, i'm pretty savvy with electronics but would just like to know if anyone knew where i could get some diodes to help me with the installation. I'm pretty sure the problems i've been having could easily be fixed by using diodes but i cant seem to find any suitable for the amount of current thats drawn from a cars electrical system. The only thing i can think of is using some from an alternator but i dont have an spare alternator and would rather use new items.
cheers

not sure how much current probably no more than 20amps i would say
Thats a decent amount...
What problems do you have that you think a diode will fix?

What kind of car alarm has a current draw of 20 amps??

My guess is you are trying to avoid "feedback" from your door trigger wires, or your indicator "flash" outputs.
Indicators = Use 6A1, 6 amp, ZR1041
Door trigger wires = use 1N4004, 1 amp, ZR1004
Both available from Jaycar, part numbers listed above.

yeh trying to eliminate feed back so i can get the door triggers to work properly, 20amps was just a very rough estimate as i was just going by what it says on the fuses for the alarm, thanks for your help witzl very appreciated

I've always used 3A diodes (1N5404 - Jaycar ZR1014) for indicators, and they seem to be supplied with almost every alarm (or used to be). Indicator circuits draw around 3.5A, but they seem to survive indefinitely (diodes can handle surge currents within certain contraints without failure).
Otherwise there's the PX6007 6A diode available in single quantities (Jaycar ZR1024).

Mos - yeah i've used 1A diodes for the indicators before, and they worked. The guy didnt complain within 6 months....
I just suggested 6A diodes to be safe.
