ok , so therefore the studs should move like half a mm or 1mm in the holes , exactly like the Z20/A70 rotors.

    BUT THEY DO NOT

see where im going with this.

    • you have 5 evenly spaced studs
    • and 5 evenly spaced holes
    • it doesn't matter where they are in relation to each other
    • as long as they are all the exact same distance from the centre as each other
    • now as long as the centre of the disc is the exact same size as the hub, ie, there is no up/down/left/right slop (as opposed to circular slop), then it will be balanced

Might be a good idea to pull the rotor off and wire brush the hub face and front and back of the rotor hat to totally rule them out.

would love to Leeroy, but its not an "afternoon job" its a whole day job,

The 30mm nut holding the rotor on isnt setup with a split pin, as stated in a few posts back its got a bend in the nut that holds it in position, i have to bend the bend flat so the nut can be undone. not very easy.

Isnt the rotor is only held on by the caliper and wheel nuts (along with the wheel). Should be able to just get the caliper off and you can take off the rotor.

The big nut is for the hub itself, which you can leav on if you are only going to clean it.

As above, drop the caliper and pull the rotor off.

And to get that nut off just use a hammer and a punch rod to undent the nut, then undo it.
    5min job.

Dunno if this helps, but Escorts used to be notorious for this problem, mysterious wheel wobble that no one could diagnose

Granted they had a shittier suspension setup whereby the anti roll bar also acted as the radius rod, but often the cause of the problem was the steering rack being worn (usually the bushes in it were stuffed and needed to be replaced)

But of course when you took it to anyone to check out they would say its everything from out-of-round tyres to warped rotors to....

If its anything like an mx83 the big nut is the end of the spindle and it just holds the hub on. AsBigzop said rotor is held on by caliper, wheel, and wheel nuts.

Sciflyer's suggestion also sounds quite plausible given the age of the vehicle...maybe theyre not worn but they could also be loose.

so once caliper and wheels are off , i should be able to remove the rotors on each side using some WD40 and a rubber mallot ????

then clean rust off hub and see if this fixes the issues after remounting .?

Yep, on a floating rotor design the rotor just slips on the wheel studs, the only thing holding it on is pressure from the wheel being bolted on, and the caliper/pads. The WD40 and mallet is just to loosen any bits which might be rusted together - if everything is new and clean it will just slide off.

I doubt it will fix anything, but it will stop you from thinking its a problem.

Don't most rotors have a couple threaded holes, through which you screw in a bolt and this action forces the rotor away from the hub ?

It's what I've always done when removing stubborn rotors from a number of different cars, from Toyotas to Mitsubishi's to Hyundai's.
