With ECUs you do indeed get pretty much what you pay for and from all those that i have used (Haltech, Wolf, PFC and Autronic) the pricing scale is pretty well right.

The Adaptronic is one that looks to be the best bang for buck at the moment as very well priced and seems to be a pretty powerful bit of kit?.

There is alot more to engine control than injector opening time versus load, which alot of people don't seem to understand

I like my V88 more than my SM4...

The V88 is supported by Ray Hall direct, G4 is supported out of NZ.

Might be bit of a random question, but I thought this would be the best place to ask it as it is related to ECU tuning setups.

I recently had a wolf V500 fitted and tuned to my car. After this I found that the distributor rotor and cap had had their best days behind them so I replaced them. However I finally got round to checking the timing on the car now and it has changed, I'm just no sure what way.

The ECU ignition lock had a setting of 15 degrees stored in the ECU, but when I do that it appears to be around 12.5 on the car. If I change it to 10 on the ECU, it shows up as 7.5. This is either side of the factory ECU calibration point at 10 degrees. Would it be possible that the ecu was installed with a setting of 15 in the ECU as 10 on the actual engine? Would they be crazy to do that? Is there any real way to work out what they might have done? Or should I just assume that 10in the ECU should be 10 on the car?

At the last dyno day the car apparently was pinging a little bit and I'm trying to work out if this might have contributed to that as well.

I tried contacting the installer but he has been sick for the last week and haven't been able to get a direct answer, so I thought I might ask some of the bright minds on here in the mean time.

just rotate the dizzi so when the ECU thinks it is firing at 10 degrees, #1 sparks at 10 BTDC going by the marks on the crank.

Sounds like the dizzi is 2.5 degrees out.

Well that is what I was expecting as well, I guess the old setting in the ECU is what got me thinking a bit and questioning the setup and wondering if anybody has heard of installations where they didn't set the timing in the ECU to match the real world.

    Cheers

there is no 10 degree timing 'locked' into the ignition/dizzi of the factory - you can set the dizzi whereever you want and enter whatever trigger angle you want.

they could have set the locked angle (for purposes of correctly positioning the dizzi) then bumped it while re-tightening the bolts holding down the dizzi?

i doubt this would have been causing pinging because your timing would have been retarded by 2.5 degrees

does the wolf offer a trigger offset function so you can correct the timing via software? If so then you shouldn't have to touch the distributor, just make the software change.

Thank you for that suggestion, I didn't think to look for something like that it does have an overall ignition trim which based on the description sounds like what your suggesting.

    Quoting from the software:
    Overall Trim
    Trim the entire Ignition delivery.
This trim applies to all Ignition values, Starting Ignition Timing included.
