can you cut and shut that section of the airbox, to make it clear?

Well... as you all know, I have completed my 20v BT Conversion, but I still need to rectify a few things... All documented here... http://aw111.blogspot.com
To get it engineered, one of the rules is to keep the intake system in an enclosed path... IE: Stock instake system.
But... With the stock airbox, it actually fouls the engine latch, and even with bashing and hammering, it still is too close to be engineered, I suspect... hence, I'm looking at velocity stacks and enclosure.
For the enclosure, I was thinking of... airbox from Tweakit.com.au
for the Velocity stacks I was thinking of ...
PASS Racing VS + Filters
or
Techno Toys VS
With the PASS Racing VS, all I would need is just a duct to a clean fresh air pickup, just in front of the gearbox, whereas with the Techno Toys I would still need to get a Filter, and was thinking of the K&N Apollo which has filter and seperate enclosure.
These setups can be engineered successfully, and most probably won't foul the engine cover latch...
So... Any recommendation, experiences, advice is always welcome...![]()

Hmmmm... I suppose you could, after all, it is a metal box...
For now, I've just taken a socket, and hammered a roundish bumb to clear the latch.
I should check it out, as this might be the cheapest option for now.
Eventually, I will get velocity stacks, when the exchange rate becomes better... but for now, I would probably leave it stock until I can perform proper back to back dyno tests.

Hmmmm.... Yes, & No... I've heard that rumour too... But then again, I've also heard rumours stipulating the oposite.
Hence, why I want to do back to back comparison, so that I can confirm or deny that rumour. Alas, I also need to get it engineered, as it's my daily driver.
But as said.. it's a good option... I will definitly investigate next week, and find a place to weld it.

Could you make a silvertop airbox fit?
They are a different shape and clear the catch..

as oldcorollas said i would try and cut and shut the area that is fouling the latch. it would be easier then having to fit a silver top airbox.
hehehehe... Yeah, tried the Silvertop box, and there are many differences, and it would require too many mods to make it fit. Not to mention the Holes are too small and even the intake side of the filter is a lot smaller than the Blacktop box... the silvertop is 71mm in diameter, and the BT is 81mm in diameter.
It would be easier to just cut and shut the BT airbox. I've already removed the 3rd bolt on the Latch, so that is not a problem... it's just that it's only about 2-3mm clearance.
Any ideas / recommendation / advise are always welcome...

it might be 2 or 3mm clearnance when the car is not running but when you give it some revs there will be slightly less clearance due the engine moving with torque.
Yep... Exactly. Hence why I think the engineers will pick on this. 1 or 2 knocks, the latch loosens, the bonnet will flip open and could pose potential safety issues.
Mind you, we tried moving the engine with Nolathane engine mounts, and it just doesn't want to budge... None-the-less... the torque from the engine + moving car, it will still move... hence, the concern with 2-3 mm clearance.

The new EFI hardware/ Speed Technology webiste is pretty good and they have started selling velocity stack kits as well as fibreglass plenums to suit, might fit and work well too as they have some nice low profile ones available.
Look for them here at the bottom 2 on the page.

One solution is to remove the latch completely, and just get bonnet pins/clips. and if doing that you might as well use an SC engine lid with the bigger ventilation if you can get hold of one.

if he uses bonnet pins will he be able to get a road worthy as i have heard that you are aloud to use them but you still have to maintain the original locking or latch mechanism?

Hmmm... I was thinking about that, and I have located a AW11 SC bonnet... but...
1) Bonnet pins are illegal, and can not be road registerd with Bonnet Pins.
2) SC Bonnet has a large ventilation area, you are right... but when heavy rains will cause your Dizzy to get wet, and possibly cause problems with electronics in that area.
I wouldn't mind it tho... I like the looks of the SC bonnet.
Checked out your thread... Nice 1/4 mile @ 14.7. Definitly is a total different beast the 20v BT. None the less... I'm using the C56 Gearbox with LSD, and no aircon. I can definitly feel the difference between the C56 & C52... especially from 2nd to 3rd.
