Side draughts and an ignition computer that runs of the 3s dizzy (remove cap to fit beneath firewall). That would be my recommendation if you insist on the carby option. 32/36 on a "mild" 2000 refers to a sohc engine that doesn't rev overly high. 3sge is good for flow.

And i'm very familiar with the throttle linkage of the 32/36 dgv/av/ev... silly carbies lol!

what about a manifold off a 3S-F SV22 camry?
not the most powerful or tunable solution, but a fairly simple one, or are the manifolds non compatible between the G and F varients?

simply... no. and if they did, same issue with the G manifold. They curl up as in FWD format the motor is slanted over.

Possibly you have a few problems as you mentioned, but i would be looking at the dizzy too, how much clearance have you got between the drive gear & the dizzy gear ( how much backlash ) do you have ?? if its excessive it will cause your ignition timing to float around which will cause erratic idle at least ...

The dizzy is pretty tight. No real slop at all. I think the main problem now is the exhaust and carb tuning. Last time I started it it seemed pretty smooth. No vac leaks but was idling very fast and rich after fiddling with the screws. The mixture screw was jammed first time so we had to take the whole manifold set up off and get it moving with a drill. Im just a slight bit sick of it at the moment. Pretty keen to go back to uni and leave it for a bit.

Using the dizzy with an ignition computer and no cap? Can you tell me some more details on how this is done or post up a link to a thread?

As for the photos I might put a few more up on facebook and post the links. Can everyone see them alright?

Do a search for DLI (Distributor-less Ignition). HKS do a kit for a number of Toyotas. Basically you are using the 3s dizzy for it's VR (variable reluctance) sensors and the toothed wheels. The components above are made redundant as you will be running multiple coils, be it wasted spark (two coils) or sequential ignition (four coils).

There's tons of info out there. I think wolf do a decent ignition only computer, but may have discontinued it. I'm sure someone else can provide more information.

Is it an option (probably late in the day now) to lean the motor over? I realise that this will affect all kinds of thing: shifter, mounts, etc etc....

Would the intake manifold clear the strut tower if the motor were leaned over? However you would still need to cut and shut the thing to put the throttle body facing forward... Just go EFI and ITBs!

Yeah probably not an option. Too much to change really. That was probably the easiest part of the conversion. The mounts gearbox and clutch all bolt up so id rather not change any of it. (I am using the 3s flywheel with the 2s clutch.)
EDIT: Although leaning it over will solve the oil drain back problems. (But that hasn't been a problem really.) But what then happens to the gearbox, Shifter, Gbox mounts if its on a lean?

Distributor less ignition system is interesting me quite a bit. It seems a bit pricey. I'l do a some more research on it and see what I can dig up.

If cost is a concern, take a look at MegaJoltLite Jr. Or even consider Megasquirt.

Hi all just a quick update. I moved back to uni on monday but before I left I had a go at tuning the carb. I got it to idle smoothly without an exhaust and its no longer running rich. I can drive it around the yard. Need a new return spring on carb because if you give the pedal a quick push it revs off the tacho and doesnt come back!
So the plan is. Solex twin sidedraught 40s and il weld an adapter plate from the lasercut plate with exhaust tubing to make a nice reliable and breathable sidedraught manifold. The distributor will stay as is unless I have problems with it because timing is good throughout the rev range no floating around and the single vac advance seems to function quite well. This will all happen in june i suggest when I get holidays.
Any thoughts on this path negative or positive?

Good to hear that you have it runing well now ...

My only suggestion would be to go to Weber's rather than solex's, possibly a better carby & also have ball bearing throttle shafts rather than plain bearings on the solex's which do wear out ..

here's what i did with my friend's ta23 which should've pretty similar engine bay dimensions to our ra#. saves a whole lot of time and money than trying to make carbs work as good. http://forums.cjb.net/cccm-about560.html but that said i guess everyone's got their preferences and it's understandable that since you've already spent much time on the project there's always a hesitation to take another route.
