    Default benchtesting turbo

Just wanted to know whats the best way to bench test a turbo for oil seal leaks. Would blanking the oil outlet and feeding about 40psi of compressed air to the inlet be ok?

    I'm not sure on this,

but I'm pretty sure turbos aren't supposed to be pressurized like that.
That's why you have to make sure they have a good oil drain to make sure that oil is only passed through it and doesn't build up to much pressure..

Someone will have to correct me on that if I'm wrong...

    hmm-interesting.

    1. you would have to replicate the oil and water feeds into the turbo.
    2. you could then use compressed air to spin up the turbo on the exhaust side
    3. if you put a white rag in front of the outlet you could see if any oil on it in from the compressed air

one thing that is not replicated by this though is the fact that everything will expand due to the heat of the exhaust gas so its not really a valid test.

Another thing is that there isn't any vac / suction applied to the compressor housing also...
