to ask a stupid question, what is the lower manifold... im used to nissans, where i have a plenum (intake) and an exhaust manifold... please explain the lower manifold to me..
in summary - lower manifold is a piece of shit if youre seeking improvement without boost
if you want to waste time and money on these engines, replace this, THEN bolt stuff on top. let the thing breathe and get some rpm into it. then again, want to make an adapter and bolt onto oem, go ahead, but dont say your werent warned!
20v throttles will look like sex, and go like a fart - just ask denzel! poor sucker. even damiens was a little underwhelming despite cams/throttles etc etc

The manifold is 2 pieces. The plenum (chamber) and the runners.
The runners are the lower manifold.

cool... figured as much, just didnt want to gob off and get shot down![]()
so what makes the 2 x 20v throttles not much chop? too small a diameter?
Mainly the quality of the manifold you bolt it to.
Plus, they are a tad too small for high hp NA motors.
I think the blacktops are bigger than the silver tops, but not sure by how much.

I see, heres the specs anyway:
silver: 43mm
black: 45mm
make sure when you get the extractors fabricated they use tapered merge collectors, depending on other mods somewhere between 15-18deg would be best for street with a bit of a steep stepped taper out to the full size of the system..
i run an 18deg merge from the pacemakers to a single 2.5" mandril system on my 3.5 v6 verada, i would have done mergies on the 3-1 section, but ere isn't enough room to put an effective merge collector..
just doing this mod alone dropped my 1/4 time .4 sec....
now she runs flat 16's!! (sigh................)
what about collectors that used a radius on either side to merge together F1 style?
like this:

yeh they look like they will work at 14000 rpm
highly doubt they would be benificial with the gas speed and heat were talking about..
i'm talking more like this..

yeah ok I wish I understood the theories behind collector design. Are those from Burns stainless?
however i would like to see the inside of one of those collectors..
this is one we did a few weeks ago on the 2-1 section on the pacemakers.. excuse the unpainted nature and the only pics i took was just after we had tacked it, TIG'd it on the bench.. there all painted up now and look shmick.. you can see how we couldn't run them on the 3-1 section and keep equal lengths without fabricating the entire rear bank again... which we didn't really want to do as they were a free set of pacemakers that i got with 2 squashed pipes (accident)
nar i just punched them in off google.. dunno where there from
the 2-1 merge in the pics above is a mates workshop.. he fabricates them to formulae pending on engine specs/ intended use etc etc.. Extreme Custom Engineering in brisbane

looks really good Matt
anyway we better get back on topic
He's considering getting merge collectors pre-cut, we were talking about it the other day. As useful as it is, it's only really financially viable if you're buying 100 sets.Originally Posted by mattysshop

The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.
