What you get in n/a by going to ITB is exactly the same benefit you'd get in FI. You shift peak hp up the rpm. You'll find you still make pretty much the same hp at 5500rpm as you did with the stock manifold but hp will then still increase past this point.
It's not about floe pre say but the way the intake system is tuned to deliver nice torque (intake system including cams, heads, manifold etc).
From my experience and results from other the mainfold appears to have the biggest effect on inlet 'tuning'
Boost does NOT overcome this issue....pump as much boost as you like into the thing and the shape of the power curve changes very little....mostly it moves in a vertical fashion. Guys using 30psi!!!! (built motors) and producing 800whp have a dyno sheet pretty well identical to mine...if you took off the scale you couldn't pick which was which.
n/a needing reves means the tuning of the inlet setup is far from ideal to make big hp....only so much you will ever make at 5500rpm
Damien's setup delieverd pretty good result i reckon considering the stock intake runner was still there....as soon as that goes he'll make big hp (actually i know what is coming next)
At the end of the day i guess the result is the same but just to blanket state the intake does not flow well isn't strictly correct![]()

Haha
Let me rephrase.
I'm yet to see anyone make decent NA power with the stock lower manifold.
All the ITB manufacturers are showing large gains by going ITB's with custom lower manifolds.
However, I'm also yet to see anyone be able to back up the ITB's manufacturers claims.
How does that sound (as opposed to the blanket 'does not flow') ?

Beautiful...concise and to the point
Erol Richardson has a dyno sheet to back up his work....it was his work that kicked off a total headfark complicated discussion on V-eight.com![]()

nostalgia is not what it used to be:
Would you believe that those were a prototype set that NEVER got finished by the guys who started them?
He sold them to a guy in NZ who ended up spending a couple of thousand $$ getting them to work perfectly and reliably.

Would that be A1 turbo is NZ?
I think those guys and Bullet are the only mobs still doing off the shelf ITBs?
I can't comment on the Bullet gear but the gear from A1 needs alot of err 'finishing' to function even half decently

Nah, its not the A1 gear. It was built by that company that did the Countach's, and then the Redback. The name alludes me at the moment, but that photo has been around the net since probably 2001. As you can see they bolt to the stock lower runners.
I lied. http://www.carbontech.com.au/ is the company.
Denzel uses an ITB setup from a guy called Mick, and those were the casts that either you or Ed were looking at buying a few months ago.

Yeah Mick sounded like a good guy but has since quit the business. Denzel got his last stock.
Mick offered to sell me the casts and tooling but too exxy for me as a humble backyarder

Mick is another person who has made a lot of wild claims, but never backed any of them up.
Last I recall was 400rwkw with his 1UZ/Vortech/ITB's, but said nothing more than "I got 400rwkw"

hmm, switching engineers is not going to help my cause.. the only one that would sign off without seeing it is John Wilson and we all know what dickson will do with his report :s
if i cant go forced induction, i'll chuck a Nitrous kit on.. for daily driving, which is what the car will do 95% of the time, i wont need FI, so it'll be fine.. and for the times i do want to kick it, a shot or 2 of giggle gas should more than do the trick... as i mentioned before, the aim of the game at the moment is to get it thru rego.. then i'll see how long i stick to my "once its done, its done, no more money to be spent" idea
yep, wouldnt trust what Mick says (more the son than dad - share the same name) - he said i would be making 300rwhp behind an auto with the itbs, hes actually trying to sell that soarer andrew, claiming its making 268rwkw at 6 psi.
ill be getting my car re-tuned in feb, now thats its manual, i'll post the results when the times come.
any off the shelf kit, will still need a bit of work to get going, as i find out.
i know there is a couple other bolt on kits, but are just designed for the stock manifold.

Just out of interest, how far apart are the ports spaced on the head? I'm thinking two sets of 20V quads with a custom adaptor plate could be an option...
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.
