A phenolic spacer is basically a gutted TVIS plate made of plastic Insulates the upper intake from the cylinder head's heat, preventing it from heating the charge air.

For forced induction it only works if you have an effective intercooler, that cools the charge air to below intake manifold temps.

Since plastics are easy to work on, with a good drill press and a lot of patience it's doable to make your own. Just use plastic that won't melt
