I remember someone giving one away on here not so long ago... try and find someone with a 215 half cut, as I don't know of anyone using the gearboxes out of them
Due to unforseen circumstances we need to scrap the original plan of building a group A GT4 ST185 manual.. and now head into auto territory.
We have rang some places in the general area (Sydney) and either people have never heard of a Caldina ST215 .. or just refuse to believe that there is an auto awd 3sgte box out there!
Would any of you guys know of any places that have sold/stocked any caldina halfcuts/gearbox's so we can give them a call and see if they can track one down for us?
Its an ST185, with an ST205 3sgte and will now be needing an AUTO 3sgte AWD box.
Cheers
PS We are also prepared to look interstate.. but obviously would prefer somewhere closer to home if possible![]()

I am the sun
is the tiptronic ST215 auto significantly different to the 205 or 185 auto?
the manual box is basically a non-beefy 205 box.
what abotu ST246 box?

As far as i know there were no gt4 auto's available? (ST185,205)
An ST246 box would also be something to look into...would they be any easier to find? Everybody is looking to get rid of their AUTO's... and for once we really need one now none are around!! lol
I got into a habit of just typing (quoting on the phone) ST215's after saying 185,205 all the bloody time so yeah ST246 auto location ideas would be just as helpfull
We still have the ST205 manual gearbox laying around which we will either sell or swap for an AUTO box.. i woudl have to contact the boss first (my mate)
How urgently are you after the box ? Have you tried checking New Zealand ?
Probably next course of action is to look at importing one from Japan. If you want, I can check with my partner and find out when he's closing off his container. Might be able to buy one in Japan and have it over here by early March.
shmickmik,
I just bought an st215 for a crazy project I have on my mind and the engine comes with an AWD auto tranny. Problem is that the engine is currently in New Jersey, USA.
I'll be shipping the engine soon Costa Rica which is where I live. If you can find a way to ship it from Costa Rica to wherever you are I will be glad sell it.
Looks like a bot has gotten through our defences![]()
Anyway, the Caldina halfcuts are rare & hard to find. Mostly, the auto boxes have gotten thrown away due to not being needed.
I bought my car from Just Buses in Brisbane (& they had a few). Maybe worthwhile asking them about getting in parts or if they deal with someone.
I did have dealings with a place in Geebung for parts for my older Caldina, but I can't remember their name![]()
should be able to pick one up from here
but i think getting on there would be cheaper! not just due to freight but also as there are LOTS of these on the roads here so they are worth money to wreckers.
st246 box would be the same
just bear in mnd the ecus for the autos run traction control etc and would be a lot harder to set up in a conversion

ST246 box isn't the same.

Good thing I'm not needing to drive on ice then, huh.
Considering the amount of k's I'm doing, I may ask you to slip a spare one into your luggagecos mine will be worn out.
I'm possibly on the hunt for the panels from a front cut, so if you find a wrecker willing to bring one in...![]()
it is bad enough you driving on dry tarmacheh heh
k's? mayeb you should get something more economical then perhaps?
no, i have no contact with exporting wreckers. have you called any importers in aus? they shoudl easily be able to place a call and source one for you.

5spd automatic.
I was just on the phone to Allstate Auto import in Geebung, Brisbane. 07 3265 5966
They have an auto + flexplate there, but nothing else for $750.
Seeing as they are the heavy bits though, you could probably source the wiring, T bar, etc from NZ for minimal shipping.
here says 4 speed for 246 http://www.importjap.com/categories/...toyota/st246w/
i should check the brochures tho
