stop it burning.. stop it shorting/cross-firing.. what does it touch?
Hi,
Here is a picture of a 1g-gte in a GA70 Supra :
Notice one of the leads has some sort of plastic wrapped around it. The 1g-gte in my Soarer has this too. What is the function of this?
Thanks.
stop it burning.. stop it shorting/cross-firing.. what does it touch?

Possibly to hold it in shape, perhaps to stop is touching something hot?

I dont know, it looks terminal. I would suggest making a thread about it and then replacing with new units just to be safe...
It's meant to stop you posting shit threads but it's obviously worn out and will require replacement.
It probably got broken when you hit the gutter street drifting.

You guys shouldn't be so cruel...
Z2TT, it may only be plastic, but as you know plastic is an insulator and will prevent sparks from escaping from inside wires. It is on that wire to stop the spark plug sparks from escaping.
You'll notice it is on the lead coming from the coil. That because this one has 6 times the sparks than the others, so there are many more sparks in the wire to escape.
If it's worn out it may have lost it's spark-sheilding properties and you may start to misfire. Best to replace it before your engine detonates and fries a ring land.
P.S. Dont take it off... as you never know where those sparks might escape to. You might find them in your radio (leading to either noise interference, or even a malfunctioning/broken radio) or perhaps in your boost controller (ever wondered where boost spikes come from?).
I took mine off my 1g and it seemed to go a bit better, I think it's some sort of spark limiter on that cylinder, but I didn't have a boost controller or radio so there was no issue with that.
That's what happens when you don't know the history of your engine... i reckon a previous owner fitted an N/A 1G spark insulator without realising.![]()
That will DEFINATELY restrict your spark!!!

duh ... it's plastic spiral wrap - it protects the plug lead insulation from rubbing on metal bits or kinking.
I think toyota put them on randomly so car forums like toymods are filled up with pointless and misleading threads about the spark-enhancing properties of clear spiral cable wrap.
Sick BOV brew! Does it go Tsssuuuuuuuuuuu or does it go Tsu Tsu Tsu Tsu....?????????

i think some investigation.. ie actually looking under the bonnet and seeing where the wire goes.. would be of benefit to the original poster... i mean, actually looking at the engine parts, not just looking from above while holding bonnet.
