No you didn't have 3 rep before starting that thread. I just went and had a look and every single rep vote you have recieved was a negative one for starting that thread trying to get around the rules of the forum.

I'd just like to say that I recieved my first rep points the other day. And while it may have been for something trivial, it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. At first I wasn't a fan of the rep system, but now I kinda think it's worth the effort. I know I don't have much technical knowledge to share around, so it's going to be hard for me to earn rep. But that's ok, just means I gotta work harder.

don't be too disheartened.. people are still being stingy with the rep. as everyone gets more, people will be more free in giving it out for making a good response, not just a great response

It also only takes a couple of people of higher rep value to recognise a contribution you make to really bump you up. That contribution could also just be doing a bit of reseach before you ask a question, too many people post lazy questions rather than trying to help themselves a little. I always try to rep for well worded and researched queries.
