There is anaversary bonus to rep power. For every 365 days you're a member of the forum your rep power goes up.

I disagree. It shows who has a valued opinnion on the forum and who does not. As you gain more rep points you also gain more sway over other people's reputations too. It is a way of rewarding those who make a valid contribution and discourages a lot of the crap that was present on the other forum.

    Hi,

I don't understand why you get more rep points based upon the number of posts you have entered. This means that whoring gains more rep points, which does not necessarily mean you have contributed anything useful to the forums. I think the amount of rep points you can hand-out should be solely related to the rep you have received. Number of posts mean nothing.

I totally agree river, what if someone posted only in non-car discussion, and has solely built up their rep in that part of the forum? I mean how is this section useful to the technical side of it? Just because they can talk about non-car related crap, doesnt mean they know how to use a ratchet... seriously! (they may very well know how to, but I am just making a point) I think you should be only able to receive/give rep inside the tech forums, with the possiblility of general car talk since some fairly good knowledge comes out there too..... just my 2cents.

    River,

post count is only incremented in the Tech & Conversions section and General Car Talk section. You dont get more rep points for posting more, your REP POWER goes up a notch as youo reach greater levels.

Rep power is different to rep points..... rep power is how much sway you have when dishing out reputation.

For example, i have a rep power of 3 (iirc), which means that if i give positive rep to someone, they increment by 3 rep points.

Your Rep Power increases according to your rep points, your post count, your time on the forums, and the number of referred users you have.

Personally, i think it's set up pretty darn well
    ...... butt scratcher?!

I'm going to disagree with this one for a couple of reasons. As Karl pointed out the only posts that are counted are in the tech and conversions and the general car talk sections, this means posting rubbish in the rest of the forum has no influence on your rep power. The other thing is that if people are post whoring in the area's where number of posts counts I'd expect people to be giving them negative rep for it. Because both reputation level and number of posts affect rep power there is no point posting rubbish to get post count up if it is going to cut down on your rep.

The increase in rep power for number of posts is good for those that contribute but don't get the recognition from other users in the form of rep votes. It's also more reason for not accepting rubbish posts in the tech and conversions and general car talk sections.

Although my rep is quite low i do believe that it is a good system, much like ebay in a different sense, it's sorta like you know who you can trust and who you can't based on their points, eg it would be wise to say that oldcorollas knows his stuff and other people on 10 rep/lower either contribute very little or contribute junk sorta indicating that if they tell you something you might wanna tripple check it. Plus theres less crap on this site, i remember reading some whinging post about how some guy had no rep and couldnt sell and was dissin toymods and it's a perfect example of what you dont want - people looking for a free tradingpost that contribute nothing

referred users is forum users you have reffered to the forums

not sure about on these forums but on the old forums there would be a heap of random numbers in the address bar, when you copy and paste the link and give it to someone else(be it through linking on another forum or telling a mate etc) if that person signs up they become a referred user

I actually don't believe reffered users affects your rep power though so don't worry too much about that one.
