not sure yet as I've never replaced the thermostat, I'll see when I take it off
Just take out the drain plugs...the thermostat is a bitch to get to and to go through all the haslle of refitting it and replacing the gasket. The drain plugs are located on the front and back of the block, below the exhaust manifolds. There a 12mm bolt. Just undo it...flush the system until these run clear and do whatever you want to clean the system out. Put the plugs back in, undo bolt on the top radiator hose housing, fill the radiator and allow to circulate through the system until water comes out of the top rad bolt. Finished, no gaskets required.

where abouts is the front drain plug? its impossible to see the rear one without lifting the car
