Its a shame, but we blew that possible relationship in Tamworth, recall Toyota was a major sponsor of the country music festival there, and they are a city accustomed to hosting events, they understand the benefits it can bring.

Yes, Dubbo is good to us, and improving its contribution of late. But Toyota is retreating and years ago ( off the record) made it clear that if we didnt move to a more high profile venue there was a limmit to the support we could expect from them.

Im exicted about the possibillty of mutiple driving events, Dubbo or anywhere it would be awesome! Just still stings, when people suggest it now after all the work we did to provide it only a short time ago, and then have it actively politicised and boycotted.

Ok... Before I start, I am not out to have a go at anyone or the event... I have had a great time the last 3 years I have been, and we will continue to attend for many years to come

    But...

To quite a fair few of us, it seems incredibly odd that this year there was no call out for judges at the Friday night welcome... It then appeared on the day that most of the judges were people from Newcastle...

Then, lo and behold, a whole heap of cars belonging to people from Newcastle, or those people in the "Newcastle Crew" win most of the S&S awards...

My question is, "Is this coincidence or not?"

I know I am not the only person of this opinion... And I may very well be out of place for assuming that it was a rort, but to someone like me who was only an observer for the weekend, and not part of this almighty "Newcastle Crew" it seems very much the case.

i havent been to a toynats for a few years now.... but i know people who have felt the same way that you feel in previous events, in that its people who know/are tight with judges that win s/s trophies. i think many a carshow is like this though. this has never bothered me because i personally have never owned/built a car that i have deamed worthy to win a s/s trophies so its never bothered me. but i have seen some very dissapointed entrants at toynats when they thought they were in with a chance, for me its never been about trophies but... just good times, sweet cars and beeeeeeerrrrs.

Not knowing the history much, how did it get 'blown'? Also, Tamworth is an extra 3-4 hours for us 'Radelaide' travellers (and those 'unwanted' Victorians.. ).....

I also would like to comment that I believe the weekend should more be about the fun than the trophies... Although, I can understand how some people would feel paying to enter to show and shine if they didn't actually feel that they even had the slightest chance at winning... But, I've never known enough about the entrants being on the 'outer rim' to know who gets what awards and why...

Tamworth sounds sweet, viable? or is dubbo pretty much set in concrete?

From what I 'understand', Tamworth was tried before in the past, and it was a complete failure, which was why the event was returned to Dubbo.

    Yep, I agree 110%

We go only for the socialising (the cars are a bonus!)

It definitely isn't about the trophies, but I think it would be nice to see deserving cars win and not have the same people winning the same trophies every year.

Again, I am probably really out of place for posting what I have, but I think if I don't, noone else will, as their cars were entered and they would be flamed for being a "sore loser"

i always thought that dubbo was just more central for everyone, making the event more national, also finding another hotel in the country that would handle a billion toyheads overtaking them for a public holiday weekend and accomodating car trailors etc is why dubbo got the thumbs up...

We had the event booked, and had to bail on it due to lack of entries with only a months notice. The president up there then (TSCC) actually hung up on me, and hasnt spoken to me since. Clubs refusing to attend etc. Left a bad taste all round and I took the blame, I did originally mention it (the move) as a possibillity, the rest of the committee investigated, planned and booked it.

I stepped back from committee to allow us to move on.

(Sorry to the radelaide guys - whose assistance has become invaluable - but at that stage we had many more QLD entrants than mexicans.)

Im sorry I brought this up again, my little rant was inappropriate, lets move on.

Its not the venue but the people that make this such a fun event.

Tamworth was never even trialed, it was boycotted by certain influencial clubs and abandoned for that year despite unprecedented support from council and local car clubs there.

The main criticism was the lack of drags (for that year only). We had circuit and skidpan lined up with drags in the following year. Dubbo shafted us on that only 2 years later anyway and we seem to be coping, now 2 years without drags (would've been 1 in tamworth).

Forget Tamworth they wont have us back, I really am sorry I brought this up. Drop it.

good 1 for been brave enough 2 speak up, but i think you may be a little off, a rort is a big thing to say or accuse something of without much evidence

more than 50% of entrants were from newy, so of course a few will win? wot should of won??? it wasnt a big show this year

friday nite was all but raind out, n "rushed" due to the rain, most people grabd food n ran back to rooms, every1 seems to have there own groups, jus like school.....

im sure you could of askd danae or dave on the day if you wantd be a judge, they have a lot to do an hav cars entered as well. it wod of saved this rant.

some judges were from newy, celica phil is from act. how many judges were there anyway?? i saw 3, steve, jo n phil

im from newy n not part of this so called ("shirt idea") "Almighty Newy Crew", (i think you mean, its just the older crew that has been going for many many years, the experenced 1's) i feel left out now, n from wot i saw at motel they didnt have toyotas entered, but they came anyway (i drive all that way to park next 2 a commodoor)

i spent many late nites, many many, tryn to redo/revamp my car (n im still not happy with it), to beat other certain cars, i go to a heap of car shows, n look at other cars, listen n talk to judges, to see wot they look for. every1 has there own opinion of wot they like.

the toymods/toynats group seem to lean toward the older classic toyotas
i love the supras, soarers etc they will always make me stop n look but you jus cant beat a classic.
a neat straight older car should always beat a newer car, they look better, plastic is easier to make look good. jus look at tuppaware

thats jus my 2cents, bn drinkn tonite, im not tryn to upset u, but like jeffro said u cant keep every1 happy.
    end rant start new

it was a good weekend, y crap on n drag it down, cant we all jus try n keep it in the 1 place n make it bigger n better n longer n then mayb a national holiday where all australians cum together n piss on holden n ford

would it be so bad if the trophy idea was dropped altogether?

(or everyone brings a trophy, puts it in a box, and then get drawn out and handed to different cars )
