play around with the timing. It doesn't take much for it to be out of whack so try a few settings to get it to fire, then fine tune the dizzy position once it's going.
Hey All...
Been on the forum for a while but this is probably the 2nd or 3rd time I'm posting.![]()
Anyway... Have just completed by 20v Conversion on my AW11... A quick run down... 20v Blacktop into a 87-88 AW11 mr2.![]()
Have hooked everything up, and got the MR220v in the US to perform the wiring harness conversion. Unfortunetly, she cranks, but she doesn't wanna fire up.![]()
Checked Fuel in return line, and she's got fuel.
Checked Spark from Spark leads, and she's got spark.
Hence... I need HELP... Any ideas?![]()

Was it auto before the conversion?

Hey All...
First off... No it was of a 5spd, and I also retained the 5spd, as apparently there is an LSD in it and has better gearing for the 20v BT.![]()
Did some further investigation on it, and...
Definitly have spark, as we pulled a spark plug and held it against the engine... Definitly has spark...
But we noticed that the injectors aren't firing!!!!! IE: there was no fuel mist coming out and the injectors aren't clicking?![]()
We've checked the opening relay, and it's OK, we've checked the connectivity between ECU and injectors and that is OK, we've checked the ignition and that is OK as well...
We've also checked the omage across the injectors, which seemed a bit high at 14.2-15Ohms, but considering my old 16v injectors read the same, I'm assuming it's gotta be the multimeter that is a bit out.
So... this really leaves me with 2 possible problem... ECU is dead or the injectors aren't working!!!!!
Any other thoughts or ideas? Anybody around with a 20v BT engine?
Thanks
MIKE
have you got 12V at the injectors when the igntion is switched on?
The injectors fire by the ECU grounding them.
JP... good point... I didn't check that... gimme about 30mins, and I'll check...![]()
Thanks...
MIKE.
JP...
Yes... the injectors are seeing 12v.
I've also checked the cable from ECU to injector and that one also is OK...
Any thoughts?![]()
Thanks in advance...
MIKE.
check connectivity from ECU side of injectors to relevant pips on the ECU plug - you'll need a pinout diagram/table.
is injector 12V supply on when you are cranking?
does the tacho move at all when you crank it?
sorry for stating the obvious, but is the fuel pump priming properly? is the rail getting nice and pressurised?
i always forget the grounds when hooking up looms, are all your ones bolted down somewhere nice/contacts are good?

Hey All...
Yes... Checked the injector to relevant pinouts on ECU, and they have connection...
Didn't check to see if 12v still there when cranking... Will try next time.![]()
Yes... The RPMs do fluctuate when trying to start... I can see the needle move.
Yes... The fuel pump is priming... I can hear the weezing sound when ever I attempt to crank. This was as per previous engine, the 16v engine... And I've checked the return line and there is plenty of fuel.
Yes... All the grounds are solidly attached... one of the first things I've checked as I've seen this to be a common issue...![]()
I'm starting to think it might be ECU problem...Anybody in Perth, with a 20v Blacktop? which I can borrow the ecu?
![]()
Any other ideas?
Thanks
MIKE.
Try an LED (and resistor) in an injector plug... it should flash when then engine ECU tries to inject fuel(you need to get the LED in the right way around...
Perhaps the injects are stuck closed for lack of use?
Cheers

My AE82 16v did the same thing when I put a new motor in. It turned out the MAP sensor had died, therefore the ECU didn't register air, and hence wouldn't supply fuel. Check to see if your AFM is flowing properly and functioning electrically.
black top is map from memory i had the same problem in my old ae86 and yes as above the map sensor shat itself got a new one and after a bout a week of screwing round trying every possible outcome the car kicked over

Hey All...
Thanks for the feedback... Keep them coming...
What LED and Resistor would I need to rig up something of this nature? Mind you, we are pretty certain that it's the injectors not firing... now the only thing to determine is if it's the injectors (Although I had them inspected and cleaned about 4 weeks ago) or if it's the ECU.
If it is the MAP sensor, would this show up in Diagnostic Codes (CEL)? In the BT BGB that I found on the Net, there is a diagnostic process for the MAP sensor... Might just dig that up and check it....
THanks again... I will keep you all posted... Keep the ideas coming...
MIKE.
