hi guys i will start off my first post by picking your brains, my wife has a 02 MCV20 camry with a auto which is heavy on fuel which i put down to 1st gear being so tall. anyhow apart from the blindly obvious i have recently figured out that the ecu will need to be changed is there any little things that i need to know about.
what needs changing:
CV's?
ECU's?
Engine mounts?
Pedal box?
any help would be appreciated guys, if it was a dunnydore i would know it backwards but this is my first major operation on the camry.

Pretty sure the auto cv's will fit fine into the E153 (if that's the gearbox your going to use, standard v6/turbo 5 speed?). They did on mine anyways.
ECU doesn't need to be changed. On your model, there are 3 things that will need to be done.
First is to trick the car into thinking it's in PARK, so you can start the car. This is done by a simply bridge of two terminals where the neutral start switch is found on the transmission.
Secondly on your model car, 3 resistors need to be placed inline with the auto solenoid outputs and grounded. Typically, 100ohm 10-15w large resistors are used.
Thirdly, if your car has cruise control, this will need to be modified so it cuts out when the clutch is depressed. A simple switch on the clutch pedal will achieve this.
I can't tell you about engine mounts on yours as mines an early model. There will be 4 mounts (if any at all) that will need changing and modding. The north mount near the timing belt doesn't need modification.
The 'pedal box' needs some attention too also. Firstly, you can replace the arm of the brake pedal. Just leave the mounting box up there mounted and grab an arm from a 5 speed car (even a 4 cyl).
Then just add in your clutch pedal (complete arm and bracket for it) and drill your holes and connect to your master.
It's fairly straight forward and most parts you can grab off a 4 cyl manual car.
The great thing is for you, your car came out factory 5 speed in the V6. So instead of modifing parts, you could go and find a 5 speed V6 and swap in all the needed parts (incl ecu, mounts etc.). It'll all be direct swap bolt in, except for the shift cable holes and the clutch pedal master cyl mounting.
Kind Regards,
Kurt.
